I some questions regarding my two cats. I have one female and one male, and both have have been spayed/neutered. They are both indoor cats, and I currently feed them kitten chow by Purina.

They are turning one year in May, and I assume that I have to switch from kitten food to cat food. Is this correct?

I have heard that I should do this gradually. How do I do this?

And if anyone has some recommendations for great cat food I would appreciate it. I have heard that Purina chow is not exaclty the best, and my babies deserve the best, so that would be appreciated!

Thank you!

We started to feed Mika Wellness wet food as soon as he came home with us, which did absolute WONDERS for de-stinking his poo. When I read that the garlic in Wellness might not be the best for furry people, I switched him to the only other quality brand the pet store nearby had, Felidae. Though it has berries in it and some people question their nutritional value, at least they're not harmful, and it is one of the top rated brands. The more moisture the better, and Science Diet looks like dry food in comparison.

You'll be having to go to a pet store to get good food, but if you can't afford the better brands I've heard Purina ONE is the best of the grocery store varieties.

We switched Mika off of Science Diet dry to Kitten chow, simply because they say SD isn't any better (but far more expensive), and we're feeding him high quality wet so it's more of a snack than a meal. What we did, and I've read in several places, is the way to take them off of dry is to slowly begin to mix the new stuff with the old, increasing the quantity of new until it's all new.

However, we ran out of chow last week and stopped at the pet store to get more... they had none, so we had no choice. We picked up a bag of Nutro kitten (?) which came with the high quality $20 price tag. He has had no adverse symptoms (except for that :censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor::censor: bump on his lip... detailed in another thread, hmmm maybe that did it)... no throwing up or otherwise acting like the sudden switch bothered him, but just to be safe I would wean him off of the old stuff. I have absolutely no clue when you're suppose to change to adult food, but I would assume it's after a year.

Oh yes... sorry about posting again about the food...

but my experience has been that if you can read the ingredient list and understand what most of the ingredients are, you're getting quality food. The ingredient list of Science Diet reads like... well, science. Wellness and Felidae reads like a menu. Yummmmm...
