This has not been broken since 9/11/01, please keep it going.

This has been kept alive and moving since 9/11. In memory of all those who perished this morning; the passengers and the pilots on the United Air and AA flights, the workers in the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, and all the innocent bystanders. Our prayers go out to the friends and families of the deceased.

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me,! " "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today
.

I was in my Spanish Linguistics class in college...and my evil professor Ruiz wouldn't let us turn on the TV to watch....he said it probably wasn't that big of a deal and that we could watch at home after class!

Very touching post, though, Cheryl. Thanks

What a moving tribute. I remember that day vividly. I was in my cubicle and heard on the radio that a plane hit the World Trade Center. I called to my office mate "what an idiot he couldn't see one of the worlds tallest buildings on such a clear day" I couldn't comprehend what it meant at the time.
Only later did I. We went to a funeral as it was happening not knowing the true extent and were sent home from the funeral as the Washington DC area was starting to get nervous. By the time we learned about the Pentagon we were back in the office working. It was tax time and very surreal. We kept working not knowing what else to do. What a scary and confusing time. Thanks for the reminder to kiss my hubby and kits.

My husband and I were on our second day of vacationing in Kauai when It happend. We only had a radio in our room and left it on all night. It was hot so hubby couldn't sleep. I just remember him screaming "holy sht" "holy sht" ect. He woke me up with his screaming and that's when I heard it. We couldn't get in to the tv room until 7:00am so all we got to see were recorded images which in itself was a complete horror. The rest of our vacation was the most depressing and somber time but we did our best to keep preoccupied. Getting home was a complete nightmare. I have never in my life see such chaos at an airport. Nope, I'll never forget it.

I was asleep (I live in California). The first thing I heard when I woke up was Dan Rather reporting that Tower #1 had collapsed.

I managed to get a call through to my family before the phone lines got tied up, but the last of my friends wasn't accounted for for two days (he was fine, at home, but the phones were all but useless)

Thanks for the beautiful tribute. I home when the first plane hit, and thought it was a weird accident. I heard on the radio that the second plane hit, and knew something major was up.

My Mom was diagnosed with a brain tumor on September 11th, 2001. She died Memorial Day, 2002. I was driving to her funeral the day the site of the twin towers was cleared, they had a ceremony the day of her funeral. It seemed very appropriate to me, that the entire world was in turmoil during her illness, because it was so shattering to me and my family.

At least I had a chance to come to grips with her death, and say goodbye. I am so sad for the many innocent lives that were lost, and the many families and friends who lost someone close that day.

9/11 was definitely a shock. I remember I woke up to a phone call from my mom and she was crying. I turned on the TV and cried with her. Most of the restaurants and bars closed down that night. Not the bar I worked at, I had to go in to work. There were only about 3 customers. We just sat and watched the coverage all night.
