i read something a while ago on here that some of you shave your cats in the summer...my husband says "shaved? are you sure they don't just trim them?" so which is it? my cat has very long hair and a lot of it, so i'm trying to decide...to shave or not to shave...any advice would be much appreciated

I had never heard of doing this until last year when a dear sweet lady who sings in the church choir with me was talking about her cat, Gus. From what she's described it's more of a very close trimming than an actual shaving to the skin.

Some people who have cats with long, thick fur (like Persian's) will shave their cats. Not just trim, but shave. I have three Persian's and personally, I wouldn't shave mine unless it was absolutely necessary. But that's just me. I think it's totally understandable if someone doesn't have air conditioning where the cat may get overheated, if the cat is badly matted or any number of other reasons. And Persians will get overheated easily!

i get cinnamon shaved maybe twice a year. i just got her shaved two weeks ago .. with a bath too. i think she likes it .. she thinks she is hot stuff
i did it last year to see if it rid her hairballs, which it does, and then when her hair gets too shaggy, i take her in.
