Orlando isn't really expensive. If you stay at Disney or right next to any of the theme parks then yeah, it's gonna be expensive. But there's a great deal of Orlando that isn't next to the theme parks. In fact, there's about a bazillion hotels along International Drive and some of them are pretty cheap. I-Drive also has some amazing dining places!!! Besides, a few people could always stay with me!!!
We actually have two couches that have pull-out beds!

So, I think it's obvious that my vote would be for Orlando. Pretty much the only way I could go was if I could just drive over for the day as I can't afford hotel rooms, food, and all that. Pathetic, I know. Such is the life of a college kid!

But, I'd love to go and hope something can get arranged!

Susan needs to fork over one of those castles out there in the UK.

Yayi needs to have the opening reception at her incredible home in Manila. With pool boys.

And then the convention itself could be held in Orlando, so that no matter what time of year, everyone will be able to wear only underwear.

OK?

Oh, and from Orlando you can get to either coast of Florida (Daytona Beach, Cocoa Beach, Tampa) in short car rides. Tampa taking the longest to get too. Daytona would take about an hour, Cocoa is about 40 minutes, and Tampa is about an hour and a half (traffic permitting).

Plenty to do here as well! Everyone knows about the touristy stuff, but did you know there's an incredibly RIDICULOUS amount of lakes here in Orlando? Not to mention some nice art museums and even a Tiffany museum. Of course over at Daytona Beach there's the pier with lots of fun boardwalk type activities and even a couple of rides. Plenty of watersports to be had, of course.

I'll just keep pushing for Orlando here....
(I can't help it, I'm poor!)

If all of the humans attend the convention, then who is going to petsit all of the adorable cats and kittens?

And as for destinations...this place is fabulous! Mountains, cities, lakes, outdoor recreation, amusement parks (OK, those do suck, but hey, we can't have it all right?), and mild comfortable weather just about all year round.
I went to Denver for my sister's wedding 2 years ago. I thought it was very beautiful, and quite reasonable. I hope to go back this summer when she has her first baby!

She used to live in Lockwood! Small world!

The Mall of America is probably a good choice. I got to go there for about 2 hours one Thanksgiving a few years ago. It wasn't near enough time to be there.

I will add that Indianapolis is a good convention town. It's a big city that retains a small-town feel. It's clean and there's a great mall downtown.

But if you wanted to really make a newsworthy splash then consider Evansville, Indiana! We have a good convention center and we'd be a big enough, unusual group that I bet we could get some news coverage and be able to spread the word about NTR, cat welfare, etc. Wouldn't it be great to team up with some local agencies and have little seminars? We've got SO MANY experts here that can share about all sorts of cat-related things.

Why not also have a TCS silent auction with items we donate? We've got photographers, quilters, knitters, painters, etc.

Just a few things that poped into my head.

You guys choose. I'll start packing!

Those are great ideas, Amie!!! That would be awesome if everyone came to Evansville. My dad knows some higher-ups at the Executive Inn and I am sure we could get some pretty nice rates there!

Personally I am up for anything, but no matter where we go I'm sure we'll get some good news coverage. Oh, I really hope we can have a convention!
I'm up for anything!!! (I'd prefer some place warm though!
)

I'm so glad we've got a few southern indiana people, so we all can ride/fly together!!!

Great idea!!

I'd LOVE to go to New Zealand, but it might be kinda hard to scrape up the cash.

I do quite a bit of meeting planning at work, and I'd just like to add that, wherever it's planned, make it someplace where most everyone can get to pretty easily without having to change planes a bunch of times. I think Orlando's pretty good on that level, so is Denver, Dallas, San Diego, and Chicago. (Hey...everyone can come to my house! I have a pool and everything!) San Diego and Chicago are both great meeting locations, because everything's easy to get to and you don't have to rent a car (but San Diego's always got great weather and Chicago only has great weather a couple days out of the year.)

Just as another little note. We have a great convention center here in Orlando! It's always drawing great events as it's so well equipped.

Other than that I forgot to mention all of the show type things we have going on here. The Orlando Ballet quite frequently has (amazing and professional) shows at the Bobb Carre Performing Arts Center, not to mention the Broadway shows that are always coming through! Besides all that (and the stuff I mentioned before) we've got some GREAT nightlife! A bar/club/dive/pool hall to meet everyone's tastes!

I think I'm done now. I'll keep my mouth shut for a while and just see where all this goes...

Yeah! What Amie said! Evansville is very reasonble but we can also consider St Louis or Louisville.

I'm po folk, too, so these spots would be nice.
