I was just wondering. I was supposed to get mine dont tomorrow(well actually today-it is 4am) but something came up at the last minute(as always) and i cant afford it.

I was wondering how it turned out if anyone has done it or knows someone who has. I have heard really really bad things but i have also heard good things. The salon i was supposed to get it done at just recently started doing it.

I am kinda skeptical, I get my hair low-lighted and high-lighted every six weeks on the dot! I am afraid my hair will just melt off...

Anyone done it or know anyone who has??

i saw it done in a magazine and looked really good but heard it wasnt reccomended for high-lighted dyed hair as it just dries it out and it snaps off.

maybe if you take really really good care of your hair for like a month before and are really careful of it?

high-lighted hairs isnt as dry as completley dyed hair so maybe you'll be ok?

well, my hair is the one thing that i take top of line care of... above and beyond everything else... so i know it is in tip top condition

but i just had it re-highlighted a couple of weeks ago... plus if anything happend, i honest to god would not leave the house until it was all grown back out...

it is really sad the attachment i have to my hair, but i would freaking die i think...

it sounded like a really good idea at first cuz my hair is naturally curly(more the underside... the topside is so long and thick that the weight keeps it more wavy than curly) but the more and more i am reading it is starting to sound like a bad bad idea... i just read a report that abcnews did on it...yea, now i know i dont want to do it...

id just reccomend to buy an expensive high vault straightener. I love my hair purely straight and my straightener works fine on me.
But it doesnt work well on my cousin coz she has thick curly hair and she has a very expensive one at home.

well, this is everything i have done since high school- VerY worth the time!

-right now i use biolage fortifying shampoo and conditioner
and matrix sleek look shampoo and conditioner
-switch them out monthly
-only shampoo my roots
-only condition my ends(leave on for at least 3-5min)
-use a hair mask once a week(leave on the entire time i shower)
-try not to wash my hair on weekends
-try not to dry it if you arent doing anything
-no hairspray, gel, or other non-necessary styling products
-try not to wear your hair up, if you do, use a cloth scrunchie, or one of the bands that has cloth wrapped around it(no metal) and dont do it tight
-(option-try clipies instead and just do half of your hair up)
-i do straight iron, but i use something by Matrix that is specially made for use right before you straight iron...
-dont dry your hair right out of the shower when it is soaking wet, that is actually really bad for it... towel dry it(i leave mine up in a towel for about 1hr or, i will brush it out and let it air dry for 20-30min)
(my hair is super duper thick, so it may not have to be as long for thinner/finer hair)
-if i am outside all day, i wear a ball cap
here is a list of everything i use... there is lots and lots of good stuff though, you dont neccessarily have to buy from a salon, i just prefer it
i use everything except the hairspray, lockout, and polish
Matrix-Sleek Look
this is the other one i use
Matrix-Biolage

I did it. And I have highlites in my hair. But I did after about a month and ½ after I did the highlites. If they use the right one, it wont bother the highlites. Mine was a Vavoom and it worked great...it enhanced the highlites for a couple of days, and it was fine. You just have to make sure your hair doesnt get too dry. And the stylist should make sure that she is applying on that is right for you. Maybe call around to different salons, and see what they tell you. Just be sure to give them all the information. I have hair like yours...curly, but so thick it ends up wavy, and I use a vidal sassoon straight iron, with smoothing balm, and it keeps my hair pretty straight. Maybe try that for a few months, and avoid highlites and then go get it done, just to be safe.

I have a number of friends who did it. From what I heard, there is a HUGE difference between the cheap and the more expensive versions. So if you want to do it, do not skimp.

DO Not I repeat Do NOT,have it done it is for virgin hair only ( by virgin I mean no prior coloring, perms, etc) Too many stylist are preform it w/o knowing what they are doing. The one Diane had is totally different than the Japanese. Her's was just a regular chemical relaxer. If your hair is thick & healthy you should do that. Pm me if you have anymore Hair questions. Torri

that's a great write-up

I have honey-blond straight thin hair with natural highlights, and pretty much do what you do. I've never done anything to it except just a cut, no perms, highlights, etc.

Except, I have to use anti-dandruff shampoo because my scalp has a 'condition', where it scabs over and those scabs break and become bloody (eeeww.. not pretty). Head and shoulders 'refresh' controls it very well.

In any case, I also leave my hair up in a towel, and then air dry. I wear it straight (it's shoulder-length) or up in a clip.
I wash about every 3rd day.

If i didn't have the scalp thing, i'd be about 110% happy with my hair
If you remember Kelly from BelHills 90210, that's exactly how my hair is.

this is IT:

yea, i wish my hair was that thin and straight... then i would be 110% happy with my hair... for now i think i am 99% happy with my hair, and on humid days where it really gets curly i want to chop it all off

I wish i could wash every third day, sometime i can go two though, my hair gets sooo oily though, that is one of the main reasons i dont put conditioner on my roots cuz then i absolutley have to wash it the next day...

my friend has a similar condition on her scalp called psoraosis (spell). she gets so self conscious of it and uses a special shampoo to help.

yes, it's a form of psoriasis

I was born with it, and i think having thin, blonde hair and being in the sun doesn't help. I have fair skin and burn easily, if the scalp thing is not enough. Plus, i pretty much wear my sunglasses alll the time now, because it hurts my blues eyes

Oh well.. anyway, i remember, maybe 8 years ago, i must have gone to 3-4 dermatologists to show my scalp, and all recommended a 'dandruff' shampoo. All 3 said i make my condition worse because i LOVE to scatch my scalp, it's a stress thing.. some people bite their nails, i dig into my scalp

the best advice was from an old doc, who basically said: "wash often, never scratch it"
he was a WISE MAN

I wish I had nice, thick curly hair! Mine is fine and straight. It's so straight I can't even curl it that well on a curling iron or curler because the hair won't stay curled or the curler falls out! This pathetic hair straightens itself. So how do you make your hair thicker? I know... You'll probably say, "highlights."

I haven't had a perm in a while, but I'm thinking it's perm time again.

i have no idea how i got such thick hair... my moms is baby fine and stick straight(wont hold a curl either), my dad is close to no hair and my brothers is real thin... i really cant describe how thick it is... i do love to straighten it though, when i do it makes it feel lighter and look thinner and it moves easier and i just love it

i had a perm once too... i liked to never got rid of it either... it was a year and half before it went away, it was easy and i didnt have to do much to it... i was thinking about doing it again, my hubby wants me to, but i dont know if i can
