I have two sister cats: Lilly and Cali. A friend and I rescued their orphaned litter in 2002. Bottle fed and brought them all back to health. I kept the two females of the litter.

My question is this: what would make a cat start to knead in a new environment when they never had before? Cali has always been a kneader. But Lilly never did until I moved into a new house last year. Now she kneads even more than Cali. I just wondered what it could be that made her start kneading all of a sudden?

Thanks all!

It sounds like she is depositing her scent in the new place. Cats have scent glands in their paw pads and if she is kneading more than she did before or if this is new behavior in the new place, then that would be my guess.
