my family drinks more than my husbands but it's mostly just a every now and thing...but if we have big family get togethers there's always beer, which my husbands family does not approve of at all (even thought half of them drink when no ones watching)...but i like beer and my husband likes the fruity girly drinks so its kind of funny....favorite beers...blue moon belgium white
or killian's irish red

Well, I've been raised in the "elegant drinking" style. Where you have a liquor cabinet well stocked with certain hard drinks and lots of wines. My parents drink a bit on special ocassions... and while I am a fond lover of wine, I shall admit I only like drinking with dinner.

I like stuff that tastes good (killians Red, Dixie Red Voodoo, good tequila), and have a drink every now and then, but I don't "drink" by the common definition (ie, on a schedule, as a form of recreation, or to the point that I piss my pants).

I'm not a big fan of that funky "overmedicated" feeling.

Well so I must be the only one that will have a beer, wine or alcopop basically several times/week. (except for now while I'm losing weight) Family gatherings-the men usually have "old-fashions" or Whiskey & Pepsi (yuck!!) the women wine or beer. I have a well stocked liquor cabinet, though I'm down on wine I usually have at least 8 bottles. If beer is around I'll drink it so I usually don't buy beer or soda unless company is coming.
It would be weird not to have alcohol. I will have a beer on a hot day after gardening in fact I would rather have beer or wine instead of a soda. (calories are the same) I think it is really ingrained in Wisconsin's culture. Most times if we go visiting we well be asked what we want to drink. I'm the "wino" in the family as we've toured many vineyards and there done lots of tastings.
I suppose many if we had out of state visitors they would be surprised how prevalent alcohol is here-its even served as some kids ball tournaments!! (a good fundraiser), church picnic!! (again a good fundraiser).
If anyone remembers the movie "Animal House" well that is basically how college was for me. Toga parties, wapatuli (sp) parties, pretty wild!!!!
That is want contributes to my weight is not food-but beer and wine!!

I grew up in a tee-totaling Southern Baptist family in a DRY county in rural Arkansas
.

But then I married an Epicopalian
!

I wouldn't even think to think about alcohol when visiting my family. My husband's family is the complete reverse. But as we're so far away from both sides and can pretty much do our own thing most of the time. . . My huband's really into wine. He works at the Olive Garden and knows alot about it. My favorite food group is beer. And as for the hard stuff. . . I do have to admit that I started drinking Scotch whiskey the day we bought our house.

Hmmmm ...
...
We drink beer on the weekends, and I always find that I'm wanting one after a nasty, hot, dirty job. We tend toward more exotic beers, usually (although not always) imported. There's a Pakistani run brew store down the road a bit that always has a very good selection of unusual beers. Right now Hubby is into St. Pauli Girl although I prefer something a bit lighter, definitely not fond of the hops taste of some brews except very occasionally. This last weekend it was Harp Lager for me for instance, I'm fond of Lagers. For "Grass-cutting beer" we usually get the Rock Green Light which is one of the few light beers I've found that actually has any taste. For hard liquor, it has to be a mixed drink, I've never been overly fond of most cocktails or drinking whiskey or scotch "neat," although my sister and brother-in-law both are into "gourmet" type scotches. She doesn't have a liquor cabinet... she has a liquor pantry! I think you could go to her house and ask for just about anything and she'd have the ingredients for it! Wines I also tend toward the sweeter ones. Haven't found a white that I truly like yet (except for Asti Spumante possibly, which doesn't really count.) For a dinner wine I prefer Lambrusco.

Heck, here Dos Equis costs an arm and a leg and you only find it in a few exclusive restaurants!

You haven't lived until you've tasted Medalla and Presidente.

You know, I think when my sister came down the last time we were specifically looking for a riesling (at the grocery, not the wine/liquor store) and couldn't find a German one. My brother-in-law (the fantastic chef
) was cooking fish that night. I'll have to write that down and pick up a bottle the next time I'm in the vicinity of Villa Wines!

BTW, for Mexican I prefer Tecate, Hubby prefers Modelo
.

Cindy, you're a diabetic? And you run a bakery? Tell me how THAT one worked out!
Just kidding. Bradley's a Type 1 Diabetic (pump patient) but that doesn't stop him from enjoying a beer or 4 every night. I'll usually have a couple of beers on the weekend and some wine when we go out to dinner. Since finishing college, I've mellowed out drastically and only go out with the intent of PARTYING about 2-3 times/year. I'm a snore at the age of 25!
