Gail and I were talking a bit ago in my "dresses" thread, and it got me to wondering, I know that she and I cannot be alone in having such broad shoulders that readymade dresses are tough to find that fit correctly without alterations. And for those of you who think that I'm joking about how bad off my shoulder/bust ratio is, my tux coat that I wear when I cater is a 44(or is it a 46?), and my bust is 36!

Thus being said, I'd like to see how you ladies fare with readymade garments, the poll selections will appear magicall in just a few minutes.

Tops aren't usually a problem for me, except that they are almost ALWAYS too short on me! I really have a hard time finding cute shirts that won't show a little middriff.

Pants/shorts/all that good stuff though is a wholeeeeee other story. If it fits me in the waist, it's not long enough, if it's long enough, it's baggy enough in the waist that it has a huuuuuuuuge gap in the back! It's VERY frustrating. I always feel like a hussy because any shorts I can find fit me so much shorter than they would another girl. ARG! FRUSTRATING!

Dresses aren't usually a problem though. I fit really well into them and usually skirts as well (though I have a penchant for mini-skirts and sometimes they may just be TOO mini thanks to the problem mentioned above)!

Edit: I forgot to mention that I'm 5'8", if that helps to visualize my problems better!

Under the cats, mostly.
Cool... I don't think I've seen this one on a poll before - nice idea. I've got several problems. My height consitutes for all of them. I've got your typical woman shape... just on a smaller scale - the arms and legs of things are too long, my bust is too small and my bum is too big. If you want a general idea of my shape - it's small, medium and large from top to bottom! Hourglassed... just different. but I'm glad to say I take off-the-shoulder stuff really well because that's how I'd like any future wedding gown to be

I have a wide rib cage so when I get cute little shirts they always make me look chunky. Right now (due to weight gain over the past few months) my bust is bigger than normal but its slowly shrinking (thank goodness). I'm 5'4 so most pants are too long on me but the petite is too short. I'm getting good at hemming.

After purchasing a few tops for my size I have come to the conclusion that their model may have a large body, but a long skinny neck, and short skinny arms and legs.

I am a pear with a long waist.

I had broad shoulders and er... (bb) boobs-so I have to my large or sometime extra large tops but they hang icky. Long arms/legs....... I don't like those 3/4 sleeve tops-because of that. Pants are ok until they get washed a few times then too short!!
That is why if I find something I like I buy in multiple colors. Talbots works pretty well for me (exept there prices at times) Or Ann Taylor-(esp on sale) Got to buy in Misses sizes-Jrs to short waisted. Why can't they make a size 8 or 10 the same for all manufactuers??????????

I gave up on pantyhose a looooooooong time ago. Either the legs were not long enough and the panty fit, or if the legs fit the panty was too small.

well i am quite small, 5ft3, and i have short legs, so when i buy pants, jeans etc, they always have to be turned up, otherwise they end up dragging along the floor

I'm 5'4" too and not only are most pants too long but shirts are too short. I have a long torso so most of my height isn't in my legs. I have the hardest time finding dresses and such that fit my body. And jumpsuits are impossible, legs too long or body too short. Add into that I have a small waist compared to my hips and you get adventures in clothes shopping. I'm not quite sure why fashion designers decided that women weren't supposed to have curves but they need get a clue and start putting out clothes for real women that aren't sticks.

I also need to loose a little weight so we'll see how much worse clothes shopping gets when I get back down where I should be. It got easier to find clothes when I put on the extra weight.

My main problem is buying trousers.... I have a small waist, UK size 12, but my hips and bottom bring the size to a UK size 16
So nearly all my trousers have massive waists yet fit perfectly on my hips / bottom area
However, I can wear a size 14 in skirts....!

I also have a larger bust than I would like to... I am in a D cup but would really like to be a C. I have problems with shirts/blouses as they tend to leave a little gape where the buttons do up. If I buy the next size up, it normally looks to big! I wear a UK size 14 on the top half in most tops, but buy a 16 for shirts/blouses.... blah

However, I do look in proportion as I have curves in the right places, but would like to be less curvy than I am at present...

Also.... last year I lost 2 stone (28lbs).... I have since put on about 1/2 a stone of that so am trying to lose it again.... blah... it's so hard.

Confused? So am I!

I guess my problem is a good one to have. My waist is quite small and I have a curvy figure. It's hard to find something to fit perfectly. They always design and make clothes for "pencil" figures.

now... when i was 13 14 i used to be a DD and no im not joking, i was size 16 and i was always crying out of bra and bikini stores because i always had to buy ugly bras and bathers. and im 5'1
Now im a b cup, and size 36/38 in germany which is about size 10 Uk and australia.

Ohh and i just found out that i am a size 3 for shoes in the Uk

anyway because im so small people misjudge my body and presume its bigger than what it is

I voted the I'm too short for the long skirt fashion one. If it's made for the average 12 year old it's probably the right length and just about fits - except they haven't usually developed a.....erm....mature?!? figure yet

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
I have a small waist, but sometimes when buying a skirt, it'll fit perfectly on the waist but be a bit snug on the hips, so sometimes i have to go the next size up then it's too big on the waist!

I only have that problem with straight skirts though!

Who said it was easy being a woman?!, Ryan it wasn't you was it?

Oh Beth, you and I have the same problems!!! (except my bust is about "Average" size). I have a wide rib cage too and I'm only 5'5", so I know about the pants issue.
Pout!
What I recommend for ladies who are about 5'4"-5'6" are Express jeans/pants in either short or regular. They are the perfect length for us!!!

I'm a petite 5' almost 2" and they never carry items small enough for me. I have to steal from the manniquins sometimes. I've got a long torso and short legs, so I'm used to showing a little belly and hemming my pants.

And where are you guys finding clothing for "pencils"? I have almost NO hips, and a lot of pants, dresses or skirts puff out oddly where I should have them. (I can usually find something that doesn't though)

I tend to buy from the boys section.
For some reason the legs are shorter there.

(I love how I'm shaped actually, I just wish someone would make clothing for me).
