Does anyone else get irritated by having a song stuck in your head that just WON'T go away?????

Ever since I was a little kid (and I'm being serious, here) I have had a traditional Scottish marching tune stuck in my head. Oh, there are times when it goes away, but if I'm concentrating or cleaning the house or whatever, up it pops, to drive me to distraction!!

At the moment, though, I have `I will always love you' by Whitney Houston stuck in my head. I am going to have to go and listen to it and hope that it goes away!!

Anyone else have this?? And is it always the same song or something different??

Same here! I can't stand it! Whose idea was it to have Alvin and the Chipmonks singing on the track?????!!!!!!!

Appart from that, I have this strange kind of Monty Python stylee song that I made up years ago that keeps popping into my head!
I can even pass it on to other people and it sticks in their heads too!

I sometimes get songs stuck in my head as well and it can be annoying, especially if I am trying to get to sleep or something! lol
I have had an Alanis M song in my head since last week... gah!

Also, in my dreams, I am sometimes singing. It is like I am singing the song word-for-word yet in the normal daytime I don't really know the song

I don't know this song you're all talking about - but I'm kinda glad, if it's as annoying as you say!

Lol! Sunday is the most lap-hugging of all lap-animals anywhere!! I've never had a kitty so affectionate - I love it! The other two wouldn't sit on my lap if I was made of cheese and sardines!!

i need a lap cat i think. i thought i could train the new kitten to like laps but all he likes is biting, licking, playing and eating.

i guess its about nature as much as nurture

Aw crap. One thing about moving back in with my parents (even temporarily) is that I don't have a computer of my own. Dad has to work now so I have to go!!

I'm off to listen to some Whitney ... lol!

I believe there was research done on this and published in the Nature Journal. I cannot really remember the proper term used but I think it is a form of "brain itch" and like an itchy spot on you body you need to scratch it or rather "sing" it in your brain. If I recall basically it is something to do with our memory and brain works. And such a song is supposedly termed as an "ohrwurm"/"earworm" or rather songs that tend to trigger such a response.

One way to help resolve the problem is to complete the song. Sometimes by completing the tune the itch is scratched and the song goes away.

"High stands our red brick school solid as stone,
we who have come to learn stand not alone
Duce maria our queen and our guide
always before us and always beside. dum dum dum"

This was our school song and yes occasionally i sing it while im cleaning.
thank you though NOW ITS STUCK IN MY HEAD!

I love the Laughing Gnome. Yeah I'm a weirdo
But I totally know what you all are talking about getting songs stuck in your head is a pain. And why is it that it's always a song I don't like?
