New mama!

Hi everyone!

I'm new to the forum and would like to thank everyone for the great advice and insights that i've already got from reading your posts.

I've always been an animal lover and about 6months ago I "accidentally" became mom to a 4 week old kitten when i found her abandon in a ditch. I looked all around and asked all the houses near by but no one knew where she came from. When i got her to the vet they asked for a name for her...being so original I called her Lucky. And she has been an angel. Last week I got Lucky a friend from the humane society, an 8week old male. I'm still working on a name for him! The way he launches himself off the back of the couch and onto lucky i was thinking Rambo!

I did need to ask a quick question. Rambo (for now) seems to have not been weaned properly or was taken away too soon. When he's tired or upset he starts trying to suckle...usually on my neck, ear or shirt until he falls asleep or gets distracted. Lucky never did this. Should I try and stop him from doing this? Is there some other way to comfort him? Will he outgrow this...he doesn't seem to be doing it any less as the time going on.

Our Bijou was weaned and left his mom at 8-9 weeks and he thinks I am his mom, therefore he suckles on my neck (must be on the left side) every night before we go to sleep. After suckling, he lays the upper part of his body on my pillow facing me and occasionally gives my nose or eyelids a lick just before going to sleep. Bijou is just over a year old and still does this so what can I tell you!

It doesn't hurt me or really bother me and if it makes him happy, why not!

i got a kitten for my daughter and it was 5 weeks old, it sucks on everything, in fact it's sitting on my lap sucking on my pants right now, we have a pillow that's long fake fur, and she acts like she thinks it's her mommie, she kneeds at it and sucks on it, is it because she was weaned too early it's so cute but my pants have little wet spots

i posted this a while ago...i never try and stop the baby from sucking cause it's so cute, but you should read what everyone wrote, alot of kitties suck!

Well that's good to hear. I think I'm just a little bit of an overprotective mom!

As soon as I find someone with a scanner i'll get some pics of my babies up here!

My cat Ullah will be six years old next month and she still suckles on me. I got her when she was three or four weeks old so she thinks I'm her mommy. I just ended up getting used to it, although my boyfriend doesn't really like it.
