I wasn't sure where to post this...

This morning I awake at 6am to loud meowing outside, thinking it was a neighbor cat I almost didn't open the door but then I did and I was shocked it was MY sammy. Now I have no idea how he got out! In fact I did some late night housework and I distinctly remember he was sleeping in favorite chair right before I went to bed, cause I didn't clean that area so not to disturb him. So I just thought he stayed there all night cause he wasn't sleeping with me (not a big shock) I DID have a small window open until I went to bed, but I am used to opening it when I clean and he never seems interested in climbing through it. Jumping from it would be like a 12 foot drop maybe?... Could he have jumped that with no injuries? I checked and there aren't any.

I'm still a little freaked out, I guess I have to only open that window a crack from now on. I'm guessing he didn't try to come home because I am sure his meowing would have woken me up earlier. Gosh knows what he did, I just hope maybe this will make him less interested in going outside but fear the opposite.

The fact is that if a cat can fit its head through a hole, it'll be able to squeeze the rest of its body also. My babies have managed to do that a few times. They've gone through the narrow iron grills of the fence and underneath the closed garage door except for a 2 or 2 and a had inch opening at the bottom.

I even remember watching "Funniest Animal Videos" and there was a clip of a cat that was able to escape through the tiniest hole of a closed door. Amazing!

Does someone in your house leave for work early in the morning that might have accidentally let him out?

I was tending to the herbs on my deck (live in a 2nd story apt) the other day, and thought I had closed the door all the way, but the next thing I know Oliver was out there with me--scared the bejeezus out of me! Any door that is open even the tiniest crack he can wiggle open with his paw.

Cats are clever...if they had opposable thumbs, they'd take over the world!

I think they've already taken over... *looks at mother asleep, but half off her bed due to a fear of moving the cat over*

I think he jumped out the window, he actually could land on these plastic recycle bins below, they aren't always below that window but they were that evening. I have since moved them. I hope he MIGHT have learned a lesson though, he seems less interested in going outside and was especially snuggly yesterday.
