Yesterday I had quite the busy day. I had a softball practice with the new team I'm on and ended up fixing my Dad's computer until 4 am. I was a bit nervous about the softball practice. It was a new team, but almost everyone already knew each other and I was basically asked to join as a last minute addition because the roster wasn't quite full and the team captin got my name from the league director. Usually, you don't get treated that nice in a clique, but I was still crossing my fingers for more than a month waiting to join this league. They play at a complex with 300 foot fences and it will be fun trying to smash the ball over them. It's co-ed ball with low arc pitching, so it's a good balance of relaxed fun and a bit of competitiveness thrown in.

So, after I made a few wisecracks and broke the ice, everyone seemed to think I was okay and I felt a lot better. I had also jumped the gun and ordered a really nice bat to bring for everyone and I'm glad I did. It hasn't arrived in the mail yet, but I'll have it by our first game.
It will also be a good diversion for them to keep their hands off my favorite new bats, especially "Roxanne" (my RocketTech
)

They seem really laid back and just out there to have fun... unlike the team I played on last year.
I take my batting seriously, but geeez... it's just softball... no one is going to cure cancer out here, right?
Anyway, I think everyone here helps me to keep my wits sharp and I just wanted to say that having a good time in a real social setting still reminds me of TCS. -wish you were here.

Hey Mr. Sports Guy! Congratulations. Bet you'll have a lot of fun.

I played fastball a few years ago with our office ladies. Unfortunately we got into a league of pretty serious gals. For our first exhibition game, we got to the field early and when these gals (?) showed up, we took one look at them and thought perhaps we should just forfeit the game. They were all very "manly" and we were seriously not prepared for them. We held our own though and had a great time. I'm sure they thought we were a bunch of "pansies" though.

Great way to keep in shape!

Sounds like a good time. Wish we were all there too. I love softball. I haven't played in a league for a few years. The place I bartended at had a team and I was conned into being captain. It was so fun/frustrating because we were always partying before the games so we lost horribly due to being pretty incapacitated. We always had a great time, though. Even the teams we played against had a blast despite the fact they were playing an uncompetitive team. Best of luck this season, Ryan!

Ryan, the title of your thread reminded me of something a co-worker of my dads did years ago. He was a bit of a jokester like yourself. He went on a vacation and sent a postcard to the office guys while he was away. The postcard's picture was an old graveyard, the note: Wish you were here!

I can imagine.
Unlike slow pitch, fastball is taken a lot more seriously and has less room for middle ground. I'm sure we'll meet some wannabe "A" teams sandbagging it in our division, but at least the whole league won't be like that.

LOL!!! Cool!
That reminds me of the movie Cool Hand Luke with Paul Neuman where he escapes from jail and sends the inmates a photograph to make it look like he's having fun!

Sounds great. It would be nice if we could all meet face to face sometime. I'm just a newbie here, but have been made to feel very welcome. And I finally checked your pic with your shirt off. That was priceless!

Thanks!
It was freezing and it wasn't. I had a thin polar fleece over a t-shirt and it the high was 55ºF (13ºC). The wind was a little chilly, but the sun was out and it didn't seem so cold while playing. The fleece had to go after a while when the wind died down a bit.

LOL! Priceless is a good way to put it! No one would want to pay for that!

Good luck with that!

I'm glad you're back... now you can subject Amy to the WORM.

So what you're saying is that there are actually enough people up there in Canada-land for multiple teams? I was just wondering, since you don't seem to have enough folks for a traffic jam.

Oh Ryan... I almost forgot.
I responded to your remaining questions from last week if you care to look at the thread.

Did you really think I was finished with you yet?
Sunday is overlap day for spotlights.

Well of course there is. We just don't have traffic jams because everyone rides a snowmobile and everything is covered in snow, so we can go anywhere. No wait... that was two weeks ago.
Now we have traffic jams, but not on the scale of where you live.
