This was on Fresh Air on National Public Radio today. It's very interesting.
I didn't hear all of it but heard when she was talking about how when cats get lost or injured they'll hide in order to protect themselves rather than try and find help. She says she knows of cases where the lost cat has been within 3 feet or so of the owner's front door.
