I'm asking this in the breeders forum as I figured who would better know... but if you feel this should be moved....

Anyway, last night I took home our [postal] scale from work and weighed Willow's acorns. They were 1 week on Wednesday.

so at 8 days old they weighed:
(approx. - give or take a 1/4 oz, they sure are squirmy little buggers!)

#1 - 10 oz
#2 - 7 oz
#3 - 9 oz
#4 - 10 oz

I even weighed them 2 or 3 times a piece (depending on kitten) to make sure I wasn't hallucinating.

I've searched around on the net and on TCS for approx. kitten weights as I wanted to make sure #2 was doing okay. But to my surprise I realized #2 was right on track and it's the others that are large(er).

from two different charts:

day 5 ~ 3 - 7 oz

day 10 ~ 4 1/2 - 9 3/4 oz
2 wk ~ 9.5 - 10.9 oz
day 15 ~ 6 - 11 3/4 oz
day 20 ~ 7 1/2 - 14 1/2 oz

3 wk ~ 13 - 14.8 oz
day 25 ~ 8 - 16 3/4 oz
4 wk ~ 16.9 - 18.7 oz
5 wk ~ 20.2 - 22.2 oz
6 wk ~ 24 - 26.4 oz
7 wk ~ 27.9 - 30.3 oz
8 wk ~ 31.3 - 35.2 oz

They seem pretty close and I'm sure all litters are different and I'm thinking they vary by breed, but was just curious.

Any other breeders out there that keep record of birth weights? If so what are they and what breed?

Well, since I started it here, may as well keep track...

The kiddles are 2 weeks old today.

#1 - Wilbur - 13.25 oz
#2 - Dorito - 9
#3 - Nacho - 12.5
#4 - Frito - 13.5

They sure are growing fast! Cant believe Frito is out-growing her brother! Mom is eating like a little piggy, and it's no wonder when you see her acorns! If it werent for the charts I may just be a little bit paranoid for my littlest 'bit, Dorito, but what a little cutie she is already!

All their eyes are open and they are walking all over. I had a heck of a time weighing them tonight as they kept trying to peek over the edges

Hard to tell still, but I'm sure at least two of them will be longer-haired like their momma. They're so fuzzy!

Guess I've gone on enough, really just wanted to track their weights. Sorry.

Wow, do those kitties seem big!!!

I just weighed my brood today. They are 3 weeks and one day old.
#1 - 8.9 oz
#2 - 7.4 oz
#3 - 7.2 oz
#4 - 7.1 oz
#5 - 6.9 oz
#6 - 6.6 oz
#7 - 6.0 oz
#8 - 5.0 oz

Mine seem so tiny, especially the littlest kitty. She's almost bony. She was born at 3 oz, and seems on track developmentally, but I'm a touch worried.

Looks like you have bruisers.
It's always so interesting when you have no idea what dad looks like!

Kim, I was a tad worried about my littlest one at first too. Until I did a bit of surfing and noticed she is actually on track and it's the others that are large! I guess they're all different. And WOW! for a brood of 8 I'd imagine your momma is eating like mad! Willow just has 4 and she goes through 4 cans of soft food (1 1/2 cans for breakfast, 1 at lunch and another 1 1/2 at dinner) plus a dish of kitten chow that we leave down all day. And I swear she would eat more if we'd give it to her!

I enjoy seeing the weights of other kitties! Thanks for sharing. I suppose as long as they are steadily gaining things should go well... Our littlest bit, Dorito, had a 2 oz gain last week and is making her milestones along with the rest of her litter so I'm not too worried. They are growing so fast, I cant believe I was anxiously awaiting their arrival not too long ago!

Ok guys - here's week 3 - and unless I find another scale, dont know if I will be able to report next week...

I'm posting previous weeks too so I can compare side-by-side easier

#1 - Wilbur....10 oz....13.25.......18
#2 - Dorito.....7 oz.....9..........13.5
#3 - Nacho......9 oz....12.5........18
#4 - Frito.....10 oz....13.5........16

So there's my little piggies. What fun I had weighing them. The scale only went up to 16 oz, so I had to trick it by setting it back several ounces (using a 6 oz glass of water to zero it out). Going to have to find a bigger scale for next week!

That is WAY, WAY incredible. You saw how little my ones are. But they're doing all the cat-like stuff they're supposed to, including stalking, eating mom's food like pigs, and one's even using the litter box.

Is Willow a fairly large kitty? I wouldn't think just the fact that the litter sizes are different to account for such a large difference.

This is so fun...Kim

Willow is a bigger kitty, but I wouldnt say large. And when we had her to the vet, they didnt weigh her, at least not that they told me. And before she had her kits we didnt have her weighed either cuz well, she was preggo
so I dont know how much she goes, but I would guess 10-15. I [also] am amazed at the kittens sizes though!

Which is why I need to find a bigger scale....

Oh, that makes sense! I didn't realize how tiny Elsa is until 1) she had her kittens, and 2) our neutered male of about 12 pounds walked up next to her -he's like half again as big as she. She probably weighs 6 pounds or 8. So - petite mama, petite babies.

At work we have one of those fancy digital postal scales. I have to take them in to weigh them though!

Oh nice - I thought so by how detailed you posted their weight. These little buggers are so wiggly I'm lucky I can get it within a half ounce! And I always weight them twice just in case.

Now you have me curious as to just how much Willow does weigh. I think I will call the vet and see if they weighed her without me knowing. They did give her an antibiotic, so I'd wonder if they'd need her weight for that. Also, if not, I might stop in for a brief weight check today

Okay, so I coudnt help myself anymore. I called the vet. Wanted to see if they took her weight. They did not. And neither did the ER vet. The tech said he imagines since she was in critical condition they skipped that part.

Now I wonder if the Humane Society weighed her. They mentioned that they gave her a dose of Advantage... you would think they would need her weight for that. Or maybe they go on a good guestimate. At anyrate. I'm going to take her in for a weight check this afternoon. Afterall, curiosity killed the cat!

Ohhhhh - I've already thought of this. Initial plans were to keep one. The biggest girl, with the patch on her left eye. My oldest daughter fell in love with her, and I helped bring her into this world so I had an attachment to her. But as the kids grow, the personality of the other girl is SO cuddly. I told DH *maybe* we could keep 2 <w>

He protested of course, "it's either the cats or me"

I told him we would miss him

Then last night after I weighed them, DH was having his playtime with the kiddies and said he liked Wilbur, the big boy. He said maybe we can keep them all.

Which isnt going to happen either, but it will be hard letting them go!! We know where one is going for sure. A friend of my daughter's had her house burn down at Cmastime last year. They lost 3 cats in the fire. They are finally moving in to their new place next month. They want one of the kittens. Others have expressed desire, but we'll see...... How bout yours? I couldnt imagine 8 of 'em. Holy Moly you and momma cat are saints

Kittens are mostly going to my daughter's friends. I have 2 co-workers that are taking 1 - 3 of them. I'm a little leery because one of the co-workers wants 2 for his maintenance shop and when I started thinking about it, I'm not sure I want my babies around big machines and maybe getting outside on the golf course where we have owls and coyotes.

The girls up the street who always watch the other cats when we're on vacation want one. And the lady next door to them. And my daughter's friends, who are twins are getting one, maybe two. And a girl who goes to school with my son, and another of my daughter's friends. That's 7 - 9 depending on how I feel about a few of them. Then of course we have to keep momma.

BUT, they're SO cute. And when my husband and I met, he had a white cat with a blue eye and a green eye. And I SWEAR that if one of the white ones turns out odd-eyed, there's no way that I could let it go.
