What kind of "special treats" do you give your cats?

I am looking for ideas and suggestions. So far I have just been getting by using freebies and samples. Nano's favorite so far seems to be Whisker Lickin's that I get for free when I buy 20 lbs of Tidy Cat. It is the Crunchy Chicken & Liver Flavor in a 2.1 oz resealable can. It is a Purina product.

I got a bunch of samples in a grab bag once, but the different brands weren't documented so I don't really know what she liked. Some she refused to eat, leaving on the plate, and I threw them away the next day. Others were keenly crunched down immediately.

There's literally dozens of different cat treats, so I am just looking for suggestions of where to start instead of blindly going by trial and error.

(I feed Nano quality food, but I let ~5% of her food intake come from treats or snacks that serve as positive re-enforcement for playing games/exercise and rewards for doing good things.)

I feed Bert and Ernie dry food, so every once in a while I give them some canned food. I give them some of the real tasty stuff that's bad for them to have on a regular basis
. But hey, they need spoiling sometimes too!! Bella is on a strict raw food diet b/c of her IBD. However, she loves it! So every morning when I warm her food up she thinks she's the luckiest cat in the world
. Right now I am giving Bert and Ernie a treat that is also hairball medicine. They just started getting really bad hairballs in the last week or so. It's a chewable tablet and they love it....Bella turns her nose up at it though. So, I'll give B&E the hairball treats on a regular basis now...they seem to help w/the hairballs.

Del Monte "Pounce" seafood flavor, in those bottles. I took the label as a suggestion and trained my cat to jump up and whack it when I rattle it at arm's length. If he makes it, I give him one. They must be good!

Julya, what is the name of your product?

Thanks, selfhope. I will look for "Pounce" next time I am shopping.

(Again, I've never actually bought treats -- I either got 'em from freebies when buying other products or out of that grab-bag they gave me.)

i have yet to find a commercial treat that Adia likes. She doesn't like the Pounce treats or the Old Mother Hubbard crunchy chicken liver treats. Right now, the only
'treat' i give her is some canned tuna every 2 or 3 weeks. She LOVES that!!

Whisker Lickin's are the favorite at my house. They are pretty picky about treats too...they both turned up their little noses to Kitty Kaviar!
Friskies (treats) gets a lukewarm reception. Ophelia likes it, Trent doesn't. Pounce got the thumbs down from both kitties, and I tried many different flavors.

Shopping list:
1. Whiskas Temptations - 1 for
2. Pounce - 1 for, 1 against

Whiskers Lickins -- 2 for, already using

(I feed Nano dry food and canned food is used as a special reward, but I was looking for quick treats/snacks where I could give her 2-3 pieces from a can/bag on a daily basis.)

Well I'm naughty and sometimes I give them a peice of thin sliced ham or chicken :O But only once in a while and its good stuff not alot of salt or fat ^_^. My cats are odd, because I can take the regular food they eat and if I hold it out to them to do a trick, they will do the trick for the food they could just go eat whenever they wanted xD I like the soft mouse shaped treats. O_O UM.. for.. for the cats O_O Yeah for the cats O_O;
I dont eat cat treats, what are you talking about? Psh!!!

Well, I know I recommended Pounce, but only one of my cats likes it. He's the sort of cat who'll eat anything, though -- pretzels are his second favorite.

The other one will sniff at Pounce and then walk away. I haven't really found any other treats that they like... but then again, I haven't been looking very hard.

I did see some of those tiny plastic foil-lidded tubs of wet dog food, once... they were on sale for like $0.10/ea. I gave one to the cats out of curiosity, and they both fought over it. Has been in the back of my mind ever since!

The only treats I give my cats are human food - tiny salad shrimp or small bay scallops. Neither they nor I get these very often. But they love them so much that if they are sleeping downstairs and I open a package in the kitchen upstairs, all three of them will be there in seconds. Good noses!

Lovey goes nuts for Pounce tuna treats. He will jump up and knock them off the counter if I leave them out.

He does not like regular human food. I have offered salmon! real SALMON! and he turns it down. He will however rather eat an olive off my plate or lick my fingers if they have jam on them..Maybe he is just a strange kit. hmmm...

I have never seen a cat that hasnt liked dried whitebait - or little cocktail shrimp.

Dax can be odd though - poor baby gets excited when she smells citrus or lime ever since I gave her a piece of salmon that had some squeezed over it...

Well we put a can that you flip over to look like a cake but do not let it louse its shape of wet cat food freez it for 1 hour and 30 min so its ferm but not to hard. To give it to the cat you cut it up into 8ths give your cat/kitten 1/8 and put the rest back in the freeezer. It should look like a cake. We use the nine lives cat food for it but you can use your cats favorit kind. So we also use Aquariyums. there a small cat treat that you can get at any pet store most of the time. You can also just give him his favorit treat from the samples just buy it in a bigger bag.

Okay, that's a second vote for Aquariyums so I will be looking out for it...

(Snuggle-luvr: The samples were mixed together in a ziploc and there were no labels. I didn't know what they were and that's the problem. It was a complimentary grab bag when I made a donation to a private rescue group. The bag had a ton of stuff but only some of it was labeled or in its original package. I learned a lot from some of the food samples but when it came to the treats I had no earthly idea.)
