My cat has lost the use of her back legs and we have been to the vet who has given her a steriod injection and said she will see her in 24 hours. she is 19 so we will make sure she does not suffer but she is eating and fine in herself, her legs have jsut given up. Any similar experiences and advice?

I'm presumbing the vet has ruled out Aterial Thromboembolism (caused by hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy). If this was the cause the legs would be cold and without a pulse, and would be considered an emergency.

If you can get access to this month's (May) edition of Catnip - the newletter from Tufts Vet school of medicine there is an article on cat-carts, for cat who can't use their rear legs. However, only some cats can adapt to them.

Also, www.k9carts.com
www.eddieswheels.com
www.doggon.com

I hope she gets better!

I can't offer any advice, but I'm sending vibes and saying a prayer that this is only temporary and is nothing serious. I'm hoping with all my heart that she will be able to use her back legs again soon.

I am sorry, and hope that perhaps she will rebound from this.

Thank you for your advice and good wishes. Sadly, Bru lost control of her bladder and didnt make any improvements so she was put to sleep on Friday. she was 19 and leaves behind a very lost sister who for the first time in her life is on her own. It was a heartbreaking decision to make but we know it was the right one for her as we didnt want her to suffer.

She had difficulties with her back legs a year ago and we managed to pull her through as it wasnt a major disability, she was wobbly but able to move around.

I will miss her, 19 years is a long time to have a cat and especially to have 2 from the same litter and Spook is now all alone on their cat bed. This is the second cat we have lost this year, Saffy our young bengal just over a year old, died after a car accident. I miss them both terribly but will focus all my love now on our two remaining cats to make their lives as happy as I can.
