Hello again !

Well kittens are now 4 weeks old and all doing well. Unfortunately, they are still not eliminating on their own or eating solid food, but I don't think it will be too long now.

Teh only thing is, mum cat has had diarroeah since Monday, I'm worried that eating all the kitten poo is getting too much ! so.......

What's the best thing to do for mummy cat (she's fine in herself so I dont' think a trip to the vet is necessary). And, how do you stimulate kittens to eliminate ?

Hi Carla, I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. My kittens too are 4 weeks old. Yesterday I had two kittens that wanted nothing to do with food cept what mom was giving them. What I did was took some canned food and put it on their lips, and that still didnt work. So I took a tiny peice and put it in thier mouths. One of the kittens took to it VERY well. And is now eating mush on his own. As for Casper, she still doesnt want anything to do with the canned stuff. I also noticed that my mom cat is still try to help her kittens use the bathroom. I really dont know why I babbled on considering I have no advice. I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone.

If you mom is nursing and has diarrhea, it is best to at least get a fecal to the vet for testing. This is depleting her reserve as she needs all she has for those babies. Make sure you keep her hydrated, try mixing up some kitten glop for the young ones and see what they do, but please at least get the mom's fecal tested.

Hello, and thanks for the advice. I'm going to get mum on bland food to see if that helps and then take her to the vet tomorrow if nothing changes. She's healthy in herself and the kittens are all fine.

I know what you mean mom of 6, getting them to eat solid food is a nightmare ! We have been wiping it on their lips and putting them in front of the food bowl. they seem interested but still don't eat ! then yesterday, one of them took a bit of food from my hand, it took him ages to eat it, bless ! he didn't know how to chew and was just moving it around in his mouth ! he still won't eat from the bowl though. and as for going to the loo, not one of them can do it on their own yet !
