I've always loved George Carlin's view on life and this hits home.

The Paradox of Our Time -- George Carlin

"The paradox of our time in history is that we have taller buildings, but shorter tempers; wider freeways, but narrower viewpoints. We spend more, but have less; we buy more, but enjoy it less. We have bigger houses and smaller families; more conveniences, but less time; we have more degrees, but less sense; more knowledge, but less judgment; more experts, but more problems; more medicine but less wellness.

We drink too much, smoke too much, spend too recklessly, laugh too little, drive too fast, get too angry too quickly, stay up too late, get up too tired, read too seldom, watch TV too much, and pray too seldom.

We have multiplied our possessions, but reduced our values. We talk too much, love too seldom, and hate too often. We've learned how to make a living, but not a life; we've added years to life, not life to years.

We've been all the way to the moon and back, but have trouble crossing the street to meet a new neighbor. We've conquered outer space, but not inner space. We've done larger things, not better things. We've cleaned up the air, but polluted the soul. We've split the atom but not our prejudice.

We write more, but learn less. We plan more, but accomplish less. We've learned to rush, but not to wait. We build more computers to hold more information to produce more copies than ever, but have less communication.

These are the times of fast foods and slow digestion; tall men, and short character; steep profits, and shallow relationships. These are the times of world peace, but domestic warfare; more leisure, but less fun; more kinds of food, but less nutrition.

These are the days of two incomes, but more divorce; of fancier houses, but broken homes. These are the days of quick trips, disposable diapers, throw away morality, one night stands, over weight bodies, and pills that do everything from cheer to quiet, to kill.

It is a time when there is much in the show window and nothing in the stockroom; a time when technology can bring this letter to you, and a time when you can choose either to share this insight, or to just hit delete."

That is all true during these times. I believe that if everyone were to calm down and take life as it comes, than they will enjoy life more.

George Carlin is my favorite comedian. I liked his "Seven Words You Can't Say on TV" skit.

What you posted is SO true. Everyone is in a hurry going nowhere. In the past couple of weeks I've had a chance to re-evaluate my life and the people in it. I've made alot of changes and am MUCH happier, calmer and more patient. I've eliminated the negativity in my life, have started going back to church to re-acquaint myself with my Higher Power and ask for help in some of my shortcomings. I'm spending time with my friends who love me for who I am, not what I can do for them. And, I'm taking the time to stop and smell the flowers because life is way too short too be walking around angry all the time.

Thanks Cat for post such a great thread.

Hi Donna :angel2:

I know that you seemed stressed out and I'm sure it was very tough. Sometimes we have to go through so much pain until we realize that we don't have to. You were led to the right place
cause in your heart His voice was speaking to you. We all try yelling over His voice to do our own will; but it's the folks with great hearts that He wants and He will quiet us when we've hit that bottom.

For myself, I've been there more than I'd like to admit. The best thing is knowing that He knows I'm only human...make mistakes and I'm gonna keep making them; but hopefully a lot less :laughing2 Good for me that He's always there waiting for me. Just like He is for all of us that believe in Him and have Faith.

I'm extemely overjoyed for you
Take good care and have wonderful, Thanksgiving Day.

Love,
Cat
