I had a male friend in college who explained this phenomenon to me. He said it was about "male bonding" . And i totoaly belive that, because i live in Green Bay and am a Huge Packer fan......But the young men ( nephews, his friends and what not) dont want to hear my opinion. I am excluded from joining in. till they grow up a bit....

It's actually worse than you think... I'm beyond help. There's no hope for me.
Nevertheless, I never met a woman I was attracted to who loved sports more than I do, and that's a good thing.

(glad I have you guys to talk to lol!!)
Oh, yes....the sportscenter issue! My husband is a diehard football fan....and I dread the season! If there is a game one....and we have to leave, he even turns it on in the car on the radio!! Hes obsessed with it. Thats the only one though. Maybe because he used to play it? I dont know. I dont like sports. I rather have bamboo shoots shoved under my fingernails then waste my time watching sports!

I think I'm actually more of a sports fan than he is. We watch football, hockey and NASCAR almost faithfully. OK, faithfully...if we have to be out of the house we listen on the radio. I definitely missed hockey more than he did this year with them being on strike. I cannot get into baseball and basketball, though. A new one for us is Aussie Rules Football, which we both really like. My only complaint is that the games start at like 10-11 p.m. and I just can't justify staying up that late on a work night. But Friday nights we're going to start watching it late.
I need to meet then Earl,
Heidi, I´m a fan of the Formula 1!!!
and of course when I can, I wach the Nascar races too!!
......this year one Mexican runner is involved, Michel Jourdain JR...

OMG, I forgot about listening to the games on the radio!!!! I hate it when Shy does that!! Listening to sports is way worse than watching them!

Sports are the reason we don't subscribe to cable. As I see another Packer fan here
(Binkyhoo we must live close to each other!!)-that is about the only thing I may watch. Come football season Sunday's the TV's is on football from 11:30-6:30!!. DH will have golf (boring!!)tennis sometimes. But not baseball or pro basketball. But high school basketball and college ball will be on the tube. He has a TV out in his "workshop" and he will be standing around watching football!! But he doesn't buy Sports Illustrated or and sports mags thank goodness.

Lucky woman!! We have the satelite, and he buys the special packages so we not only get the games that are on cable...we get ALL the games.

Don't get me started on the Sports Illustrated thing. Not only does he get them, he won't throw them out!! He "might need to reference one". For what??? And how would he ever find what he was looking for in one??? (When we moved last summer I made him get rid of 13 YEARS worth of SIs. I told him if he could use them and find out who them MVP of the 1993 Super Bowl was within 2 weeks he could keep them...he couldn't. We've now started a new collection at the new house.)

And games on the radio...he actually keeps a portable radio in the car so if he's listening to a game on the car radio when he gets home he won't miss anything between leaving the car and getting the TV turned on inside!

We just got DirectTv and I'm dreading the argument over the NFL "season ticket" whenever football season rolls around.
Paying around $300 just to watch all those games is RIDICULOUS when we "can't afford" one of the big cat tree/condos.

And we are not getting satellite TV either!!! That is both our decisions as we feel we watch too much TV the way it is (DH does- I read books instead) but would have to watch more to justify the extra cost of cable or satellite tv. It would be nice to have once in a while but you can't miss what you don't have.

I can understand the obsession and respect it. After all, when Star Trek TNG was on every single night at 7pm, I'd be danged if I would miss it!!! But no I don't have a sports nut living with me. My daughter isn't into sports and altho I love football, I only obsess over the Super Bowl (will NOT miss it) and I like ta go to LIVE baseball games... but not for the game. Just for the peanuts & $7 a cup beer.

My husband is not a sports fanatic but he is a golf fanatic
and I just don't get it. He gets mesmerized by this little ball being whacked in order to fall in a little hole.
Well he works hard so a little down time is okay. I get to go scrapbook while he is busy so it works out.

You have to know how to work it. "Fine. You can get the $300 "season ticket" with no comment from me if I can have the $300 kitty tree."

Of course, this means most of the time we spend twice as much money as we would otherwise
. We don't have cable either, or an outside antenna. We can only get a couple of channels decently well and about the only time Sunny will watch is if Alabama or Auburn are playing a game. Otherwise he really pretty much sneers at sports fanatics himself.
