Do you like beets? I do! I like them very much! (Russian heritage no doubt!)

but we were having a discussion at my work today and some odd stuff came about....what people eat when they think nobody's looking!

What do you eat when you're alone?
Time to pony up the truth........!

I have eaten beets. Given a choice they wouldn't be my first, but they wouldn't be my last thinking of other vegetables out there. . .

OMG! The differences on our 5 major continents!
Beets! Beets! Dark red/purply round things.....like borscht (Russian soup), or as Susan says pickled? I just eat them plain out of the ground!
But Sam, I wanna know the secrets of what you eat when you think nobody is watching!

I don't mind them sauteed in butter. But actually I grow 2 heirloom varieties "bulls blood" and Mcgregor's Favorite(?)(from seed saver's exchange) for the beet green foliage (which is actually maroonish) in my flower gardens!!
Food to eat when no one is looking. Hmmmmmmmm chocolate chips, maybe a spoon of peanut butter with syrup.

Honestly, we call them just beets over here. I am unfamiliar with the term beetROOT but I'm really sorry for the international incident.

Beets!
YUM!
For you UK and DownUnder folks, yes, Beets = Beetroot. Some people also use the tops as a veg, which taste a lot like spinach.

What do I eat when nobody's looking? Hmmm...I guess that would be a gob of butter.

When I was a kid, my friend's mother, who was originally from Russia, would always make us borscht. It wasn't my favorite thing then, but I might feel differently trying it as an adult.

The pickled ones they sometimes call "harvard beets" I don't know why. I buy smaller ones and slice them and saute in butter. I really can't say what they taste like.
The younger beet greens aren't to bad either (with some butter again). A whole lot better than collards greens (YUCK!!)

Loving my beautiful baby girl
I enjoy beets baked, but only when I can get them from the fresh produce stand.
Corn on the Cob is a food much easier to eat in private. It's hard to look very graceful eating it! I also like to eat canteloupe off the rind after I cut it! Again, quite difficult to do that with proper table manners!
