english ivy or hedera helix is the most commom variety it is not poisonous but is prone to red spiders if the air is too dry...i have several books on house plants because my house is a jungle and besides my three cats i also have three kids, and i can't find a single variety of ivy that is listed as harmful or poisonous, ivy can be very tempermental though...

that list eliminates almost every plant i own! i checked in two different books i have and they both say it's not but you may just have to get several opinions and then make a decision, ivy usually does quite well in a bathroom they like the humidity

My suggestion is to get fake silk ivy. If you really want to have a real plant, hang it up very high and rub a smell cats dont like on the pot (i have heard lemon juice, but I cant back that up) and give him another plant that is ok down on his level like catnip, or catgrass. He might not even like his plant, but the fact that it is there will most likely keep him from wanting in the other.
