Are there any other vets you can call? If this is the cat that the Stray group helped you with, maybe they could help you - at least find another vet?

What makes you think the cat is in a lot of pain?

Was it just stiches he had or are there broken bones, etc.

usually pain from stiches is not that great and the little pain they do feel is actually good because they are less likley to jump around and pull out the stitches.

There is nothing over the counter that you can give that will not potentially harm or even kill this cat. What type of surgery did he have, and how is he acting that you know he is in such pain? Can you not take him into another vet to see him so that the vet can prescribe something for the cat to take?

he had a huge chunk missing from his tail end...he was a stray i found...he stitches run across his tail down his butt (less than 1/4 inch from his butt hole) down his thigh and up into his scrotum, the doctor couldn't find any testicles and thought maybe they had been ripped out when he got his injury...he's happy and purring most of the time and every now and then he starts to wiggle like he's uncomfortable(still purring though)and he will growl and scratch me...still purring though

Well, it doesn't sound like he is in terrible pain..I remember now the other thread about this cat, it sounds like he is doing great...I honestly, would not worry about it too much...it sounds like if he wasn't feeling that pain, he would be up and moving about, which can cause issues with the stitches.

I agree, that is a very tender area..lol..and it does sound like it would be very uncomfy....but the not moving around is best for him right now:/ If that means feeling a little pain to stay still then unfortunately, that would be best, IMO

Keep playing the music, and talk to him quietly as discussed in the other thread. He might be in pain, but he has felt worse (when the injury was fresh I am sure). I would just try to keep him comfortable, and let him know you are there for him, if he hisses or scratches at you just talk quietly to him, dont touch and let him alone for half an hour or so. This might be a blessing in disguise because he will have very strong trust for you because he will know you saved him. It might make this stray's transition into your house much easier. Then when you can get ahold of the stray shelter ask if they have anything for him. He is going to be fine, we have all had a pain after surgery (wisdom teeth out anyone?). Your doing great, just keep it up.

Please keep trying, it would be best if you could have a vet prescribe something. I can tell you that my vet cleared me for using Arnica Montana, an herbal medication that is given sublinqually (placed under the tongue to dissolve) with one of my cats after her surgery, and I've used it post-spays on several cats since then, it truly does seem to help. But..I did this with my vets permission, and per the dose he told me. You really need to reach a vet.

I would definitly scold the vet for not giving you an emergency contact number ,or any pain meds to boot. I guess i'm just acustomed to my vet who always has a number where she can be reached after hours, and always sends me home with extra pain meds, incase I need them. How could they preform surgery on a cat and not give you a number for after hours? Anyway do you have any Rescue Remedy that will help calm him down, even if it wont take the pain away.
