A friend sent this to me, and I want to share it with you guys.....let's hope we never need the info, but just in case.......

1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, DO SO!

2. Learned this from a tourist guide in New Orleans. If a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you.... chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you, and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car, kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won't see you, but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON'T DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU GET INTO YOUR CAR, LOCK THE DOORS AND LEAVE.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage: A.) Be aware: look around you, look into your car, at the passenger side floor, in the back seat and underneath the car. B.) If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars. C.) Look at the car parked on the driver's side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. ! (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot).

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!

8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP. It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked for help into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

9. Another Safety Point: Someone just told me that her friend heard a crying baby on her porch the night before last, and she called the police because it was late and she thought it was weird. The police told her "Whatever you do, DO NOT open the door." The lady then said that it sounded like the baby had crawled near a window, and she was worried that it would crawl to the street and get run over. The policeman said, "We already have a unit on the way, whatever you do, DO NOT open the door." He told her that they think a serial killer has a baby's cry recorded, and uses it to coax women out of their homes thinking that someone dropped off a baby. He said they have not verified it, but have had several calls by women saying that they hear a baby crying outside their doors, when they're home alone at night.

10. Never pick up a hitchhiker who is a stranger to you, even if it is a kid. Someone might be hiding and waiting to jump into your car when you stop. Dangerous people come in all ages!

The part re: a big van parked nearby or helping a man who 'looks' injuired, reminds me of "Silence of the Lambs", in the scene where the guy with the fake arm cast has the girl help him lift the sofa into the van, then he kidnaps her???

I just saw it on AMC last night! Scary stuff for sure.

Susie, these are great, way to go!

Let me share that while we were in Utah last week, I was alone outside a country cafe with Sandy our puppy. A man approached me and said "oh what a cute pup! My little girl wants a puppy and could I take you to show it to her?" --MY INTUITION KICKS IN RIGHT NOW-- I said, not smiling, "oh really? How nice. Why don't you bring her here to me? This way she can see her in the sunshine and my man will be back any moment to answer your questions," and stared him down with one icy-cold stare. He left and did not come back.

Actually I'm kindof comforted by the fact that it did scare them. I'm always surprised that so many men don't really think about safety the way women do. I have several male friends and they are always surprised by how aware I am of people and situations around me. It's like it never occurs to them that there are people out there that would hurt them.

Great tips! I'm always aware of my surroundings and do pretty much of the things suggested. I also always carry Pepper Spray with me, it's important to me since I like to walk alot in isolated areas and sometimes at night. It does make me feel safer just having it with me.

One tip I use to is if you have to walk down a dark street, walk right down the middle of the road rather than on the dark sidewalk. I do this all hte time, cars look at your funny but who cares!

I had a guy ask me for a ride, and I got the creepiest feeling from him. I would never give a stranger a ride regardless but I never forget how he creeped me out. So going with your gut is always important. A woman who met Cary Stayner, the murderer, said after talking to him she went upstairs and put a chair in front of her door and she didn't know who he was.

Last year there was a murder in my development a young girl got killed by a guy who was hidding in her bushes so now I always look around before I get in my car and before I get out, alot of people walk in my development even after dark so if someone is near my house I'll wait till they pass or have Eric come out to meet me! Number three is good I've never thought you could kick out tail lights from the inside.

I always made sure I locked my car doors while in the car - even driving. My last two cars automatically lock the car doors when you put in in drive! Help deterr those people who might be car jacking or trying to jump into your car.

It scared me FOR you, if you know what I mean. Some of those things were so downright evil and cunning that it surprised me and really, as a man I don't have to worry about my own safety that way; only for the women around me. No matter what has moved forward in gender equality, women still don't commit those kinds of evil crimes towards men anywhere near to the same degree as men do. It's scary.
