my parents own a business in a shady part of town, and outside there shop there are several stray cats, very loveable friendly cats, and i send food down there for them cause they're so skinny...well saturday my 2 year old was playing with the cats when i noticed one of them was hurt pretty bad...at the base of his tail and across his but and balls it looked as though something had taken a huge bite out of him
strange thing was the cat still purred when i picked it up, despite the obvious pain it was in, i cried...i have 3 kids and am on a very tight budget so i couldn't just take the poor baby to the vet i had no money! i called the humane society, and they said there are no laws in idaho regarding cats at all and that i could catch it and bring it in, but they would just euthanise it!
i finally reached a place called "just strays" i told them the situation and that i would love to give the baby a home with me, but i couldn't afford all the vet bills, being a stray we didn't know what al it would need...they said they would pay the bill, if i took care of him
so i have a new baby and he's the sweetest guy ever...i feel bad though because i have to keep him locked up, he really wants to play with my two year old and she really wants to play with him, but he has some 50 or more stitches in his back end, and if i don't keep him locked up he followes me around so much that it makes him hurt...he's missing his testicles, and the vet wasn't entirely sure that the cat had been neutered previously or if they had been ripped off when he recieved his injury
can anyone suggest anything that i can do to make him more comfortable? i have him in the bathroom right now, and i hate having him locked up like that, but i don't want my daughter playing with his owie and hurting him

Thank GOD that this sweet kitty found You!!!
Other than having something soft for him to sit/lay on, I don't have any suggestions for making him more comfortable. You have done a wonderful thing by adopting this poor baby. What did you name him?

Does he have any sort of cat bedding in there? There are some really cheap little fuzzy beds made for cats. Or just an old towel or blanket can be nice, maybe put it in the bathtub?

And it sounds like the best idea to keep him isolated while he heals up, as long as he gets some social time everyday (you or your children go in and pet him). When you feel bad, just remember what his situation was before! And soon you'll be able to let him roam free all day.

i do have a pillow covered on towels for him to lay on and i use every excuse i can find to go sit in the bathroom with him...his name is Paco, i'm still working ontrying to get his pictures posted...i didn't get any of his injury before he went to the vet, but you wouldn't want to see, it was bad, but i did get some of it all stitched up, he's beautiful! and quite the lover

AWWWWWWW how sweet!!

Besides making sure he has plenty of food, water and a cozy bed, can you put an old blanky for him to snuggle in???? I would recomend just going in and giving him attention often. If he is good with your daughter can you supervise visits?? He sounds like he really wnats the love.

i think more than anything he just wants love, he's been very sweet, i don't know if he's mad because he's in pain, or if he's mad because he's locked up, i went in with him several times today and he just wanted love, but the last time i went in he growled at me and scratched me...not sure why though and he was still purring when he did it

make sure the lighting in there is soft and its quiet, maybe with some soft music playing. talk quietly and calmly, and make sure your movements are slow and not too fast. I have heard that if you put some weak camomile tea in his water it will help calm him down. If he acts agressive remember he is unfamiliar with his new situation. He is not used to people being nice to him. Best of luck!!

I am so glad to hear it helped! I am sure he will come around, he seems to be a really sweet little guy. It breaks my heart to think of all the homeless kittys on the street, I wish there were more people like you to help us solve this problem. A little off subject but I feel you can tell a lot about a person by how they treat animals. My little guy was mistreated, and when I look at him I could not imagine how anyone could possibly do that. Same way about Tigger my fur-sibling at my parents, he was thrown off a bridge! He is one of the best cats we have ever had, and someone felt that his life was meaningless. I guess my point is I am so glad you found this little guy before he could get any worse, and he couldnt be in better hands!
