I have a situation (what else is new?) that I need help with.

Fellow cat lovers....
As you know I recently got my job in the pharmacy at the hospital and was training in IV's today with what I thought until today was a very nice person.
As it turns out, my son and her were born the same day, the same hospital.

Here's the problem that presented itself today at lunch.
There were 4-5 of us at the table talking and the subject first focused on rabbits.
One of the techs hubby accidentally came across some baby rabbits that were left motherless and died. (sorry, I hate that too)
So then the conversation turned to rabbits and so on and I told them how Mitzi chases rabbits and eats them. (evidence shows this as fact, I hate that too, but nature takes its course).
This girl that was training me, I was already having trouble with her mannerism and training techniques, (practice what you preach kinda thing) so then announced that her dad "shoots cats that chase rabbits around her house" "he would rather have rabbits around than cats".
Knowing full well that I have 6 cats, as most everyone there does (their pictures are on my locker along with my kids and hubby) I thought this was extremely rude. She never acted as if anything was said or as if this is a normal situation for her dad to kill cats randomly by shooting them.
Later I noticed she mentioned having a dog(s). I wanted so badly to say something to her without provoking an arguement, but bit my tongue because I couldn't find the words.
How would she feel if someone shot her dog for chasing a rabbit cause they like rabbits more than dogs?
This irks me to an extreme and I really just needed to vent.

I thought about telling her about the "Sheba" deal. Sorry, can't remember what TCS member, but know the neighbor who shot her cat was criminally charged. What ever happened with that anyway?
People who don't like cats were probably mice in another life!!!

Ugh!
I feel your irritation on this one!! I had posted a couple venting posts too because of stupid words like that. I cannot believe how insensitive people can be!
One of the TCS members brought to my attention that maybe the person was just trying to get a rise out of me. That could very well but it still boiled my blood!!!
Do you know her well enough to feel comfortable explaining how you felt about what she said? Or is she one of those people that is completely not worth your time?
I am so sorry that she said something like that, I can totally understand how you feel.

She probably said it waiting for a reaction from you. I'd ignore her but if there's more talk of shooting cats I'd find out what I could. Then I'd call authorities.

I was looking for an opportunity to tell her that what she said her dad does is not only illegal but heartless, but I never felt I could at any time.
I don't think it would matter, she is very close to her parents and still lives at home.
It would probably fall on deaf ears.

I don't think she did it for a reaction from me.
It seemed to be a cold hearted statement on how they regard cats in her household.

I think I would have to tell her to keep her mouth shut, although I know that's not right. But I would tell her that I didn't care to hear the remarks really I would,

She probably didn't know that dogs are the rabbit's worst enemy. Dogs go crazy if they get a whiff of rabbit! I would have told her that maybe her dad should start shooting dogs instead!

Hi pjk 5900:

I gather that that lady is something like your trainer. Therefore it might be very difficult for you to argue with her, she won't change her ways but might start generating difficulties for you (bad ratings, whatever you do is wrong etc.). If possible you might want to try to find out more (without her being aware of it, of course - why spoil the bad surprise for her) and, when you have sufficient info and proof, inform the authorities.

C U later

Joe

I can understand how annoyed it made you though!, and knowing me i wouldn't have been able to keep my mouth shut so she would have been cut with my tongue

Let's hope this is ESPECIALLY true of your co-worker and her father!
Fellow TCS-ers: If you want a job where the majority of your co-workers not only understand your cat obsession, but share in it, go into social work!!!

Nothing ticks me off more than ignorant people. I know it had to be hard to bite your tongue. I know her father won't go unpunished for his ignorance and cruelty. Everything DOES come full circle

She is "1" of my trainers, but she does not train me again, Thank GOD!!
for this schedule anyway.
I will see to it that I am not put with her EVER again too.

Just thinking about this makes me feel like theres steam coming out of my ears! (like the cartoons...lol)

I WILL be looking for info of value to me in the future when it comes to her and hers.
Her neighborhood law enforcement may be clued in too.
Shooting a gun within the city limits is also illegal.

Fwan, I don't like guns either. I think they should be a lot harder to get. Too many irresponsible people have them.

I don't know too many people who don't have guns.. but most are hunters or have had hunters in their family so it's not a big deal.

I guess it depends on where you live. I don't know a lot of hunters. I know a few people who have guns and most of them shouldn't. I better quit now or this thread will get moved to IMO.
