Well...Eric said she was downstairs today, finally, but has not eaten yet. He noticed big, muddy paw prints on the kitchen sliding door, too......even Sasha's aren't quite that big. Maybe that's the mysterious spook! When I get home in about 2 hrs I will know. I hope she's eaten by then!

It is! Saba has no fear of dogs and briefly lived with a Great Pyranese with her rescue family before me. The only thing I can think of is the racoons, which no doubt will pull themselves up and peer in the glass....probably scared her half to death! Maybe brought back PTSD of being abandoned in the wild as she was.

So something did invade her comfort zone. Ok so now we know that some other animal is what's bothering saba. Now we need to figure out how to fix it. Is there a way you can black out the glass on the screen door? maybe you can go to one of those hobby shops and get some of that contact paper suff that makes the glass frosty so you cant see out of it but it still lets light in. It comes off easily and wont ruin your screen door. maybe if its just a blob and cant be made out exactly what it is, saba will just think its a dog.. lol, i am probably waaaayyy off but chances are it will be back and I would hate for you to go through this 2 or 3 times a week!

Absolutely great advice! I will do that tonight w/o fail. We don't have a screen on the door, hence the paw prints on the glass and whatever it was got such a nice, clear view of my pretty girl, too!
I'll investigate more when I'm home in an hour and we have two craft shops near. Super idea!!! It WILL be back, we have an early Spring this year and a full moon tonight.

Most likely a racoon, since your cat is comfortable with other cats and dogs O_O Odd things can spook your cats, like my cat does NOT like squeeky toys or horns, and Aerowyn does not like thigns that buzz (Like battery operated toothbrushes O_O*cough* Accidentally pushed the button while attempting to brush her teeth (it has a tiny bristle area))
BUt eventually your cat should get over it. Maybe try to find a raccoon stuffed animal? Maybe if she spends time with that she wont get spooked. I had a halloween mask of a werewolf, and my cats were horrified by it when I put it on, but eventually by leaving it lie around, they got over their fear of it O_O

That was my first idea too,
. But I would be VERY careful because saba might think the raccoon got inside and it might freak saba out more. If you do decide to do this, i would rub clothes and stuff on it to get your smell very well impregnated on it and get sasha's smell on it as well. And dont suprise her with it, leave it in a room to be discovered by her on her own terms. This idea could go either way, and I guess the only way to know is to try it, but maybe try other options first.

I vote another cat. At my house, a cat will come up to the window one cat will start growling the others will come running to see, there's screaming and hissing and they then start fighting with each other. Someone usually stays freaked out for the rest of the day.

I just got home and as I drove in the driveway, her little head popped up at the glass part of the front door, and she was so excited to see me. She ate in the kitchen, side by side with her brother Sasha, and everything is normal again.
In a bit I'm off to the store to buy something for the sliding door like you suggested Roxy. I feel sooo much better!!

I am so sorry...I missed the whole thread until tonight. I would have voted for a raccoon, and am just glad she's returning back to her normal self.

Elizabeth, I'm so glad your baby is back to normal. Isn't it frustrating that they just can't *tell* us what happened or what is wrong? I'm sorry you two went through that. My cats freak out over nothing sometimes. Sandy will stare up at a spot on the ceiling and her tail frizzes out and she takes off running. It scares me, too. It makes me think she sees a ghost or something. (I do believe in them)

Pat, I meant to ask you since you live so close by, what critters do you guys get down there snooping around?

We used to have a possum that nested in one of our backyard fir trees, but I haven't seen it in years, so I think it passed on or moved away.

Tons of squirrels - we are a squirrel-friendly property - lots of trees for them to nest in and I put out lots of squirrel cakes, corn cobs and for one that lets me handfeed him, peanuts

We also have heard/seen raccoons - but that was also years ago, I now think there are two many properties on these two streets with dogs and that has scared them off.

Hmmm...lets seen...lots of wandering cats, some local with homes, and some that I think are fending for themselves

Tons of birds - including red piliated woodpeckers, flickers, house wrens, crows, robins and I chased a hawk once that was hunting in my back hedge! He was quite startled at my audacity at interupting his hunt, I was quite mad he was after "my" birds!

That's very interesting. We have 22 dogs on our street (it's a long drive) and we get coyotes, raccoon, squirrel, brush bunnies, ravens, hawks, eagles, deer, elk, fox, and a rumored bear. We're up against the mountains, so that's why. I wonder how many of your critters are so freindly with the developments now that they think nothing of making themselves at home on your porch??

I don't know...my neighborhood and around are older homes with actual property as opposed to the horrendous developments of overly priced homes with no yards, and where they can touch their neighbor's homes if they lean out a window. Ghastly.

We have several wild, undeveloped areas in a 1-2 block area from us, so I think we may see more than some of the other streets (even saw a horned owl on one of those plots.)

Oh, I forgot to mention the skunk dh thinks he saw last month...where else but our backyard!

We had wild turkey's on Saturday-but you want them to visit not to stay as they can get messy.
