For years if it was windy out I would end up running outside as fast as I could to get to the car or wherever I was going...holding my hair down for fear it would blow away! My dad always thought that was hilarious.

OMG! That made me laugh so hard I almost P'd!.

When I was young you were able to order through the mail the Pillsbury Dough Boy. I believed when it came in the mail that this "doll" would actually feel the way dough feels.

Boy was I in for a shocker when it arrived in the mail and realized the Pillsbury Dough Boy was made of cloth.

LOL

I believed a lot of things, and most of them were my Grandmother's fault, but just a small sampling would be:

*Butter is put on food to cool it down.

*If you stand on the escalator for too long once it reaches the top or bottom it will suck you under.

*If I continued to plop down on the sofa, a spring would pop out, jab me in the but, and eject me through the ceiling.

*The poodle was telepathic (that may sound stupid, but I swear...she had COMPELLING evidence
)

I have a mole in the middle of forehead, and my sister convinced me it was going to grow into a horn as I grew up. She also convinced me if she pulled the plug on the bathtub drain that it would suck me down. She would come in and pull on it when I was bathing and make me scream.

For a little while, I thought Santa didn't like me because I was Jewish.
I didn't know he only went to Catholic&Christrian's houses.

When I was 4 I believed that all males were older than females because my dad was older than my mom and my brothers were older than me and my sister. It wasn't until I turned 5 that it occurred to me that my mom is older than my brothers.

My brother Tim used to believe that he was a werewolf.

Everyone had some great beliefs. Ohhh...to be that young again!!

I used to believe that the reflecters in the rode were all little lights. While driving at night w/my parents, I used to think they knew we were coming and would stay on until we passed. I would constently look behind the car to catch them on, but they would always be off.

My dad was an electrician and I had asked him how much all of the electricity costs to keep those lights on for all the cars.

Mom had always told my sister and I that there was not such word as can't. I would even show it to her in the dictonary when I got older.
The other involves chewing gum. You weren't supposed to swallow it for some reason I can't remember. Also seeds-they would sprout and grow in your stomach!!

You weren't supposed to swallow chewing gum cause it didn't digest and all the gum would grow and grow and explode your stomach when you got to be an old lady.

I used to believe grated cheese would cool down the spaghetti so I couldn't eat spaghetti without cheese. It was just too hot.

I always believed and still do, until I hear otherwise, that if you swallowed gum it would take 7 years to digest.

My parents told me something similar, but they said it was a monster (my dad was an elevator/escalator mechanic at the time and saw too many lost shoes and worse)....BUT they both deny ever having told me that, so either they forgot (quite possible, it was a long time ago) or I drew the conclusion myself (also possible). Either way, I definitely believed it.

You just reminded me! I remember being afraid that we (my sister and I) would get separated from my mother on the subway (in Toronto).....like, that my mom would forget or get pushed off and we'd still be on it. My mom had told us that if it ever happens, just get off at the next stop and STAY THERE. I thought that because she said it COULD happen, it WOULD happen. I used to always try to hold onto my little sister's hand really tight so that at least we wouldn't get separated from each other, even if my mom got off the subway without us (like she ever would
)

People used to tell me that I was going to look "just like my mother" when I got older. I really thought I was literally going to be her twin look-alike!
God how I wish I would've........
My Mom is so beautiful!

Oh this thread is gorgeous!

When I was little I also used to believe that if I pulled the plug then I would go down the drain, that there were monsters under the bed and that if you ate your crusts you got curly hair, so I stopped eating my crusts.
