Hi,
I have two cats just over 2 years old (brother and sister).
I had them neutered at 6 months.
However, the female is gradually getting more and more demanding of attention.
She will run and throw herself on the floor right where you are about to stand.
If I am at the computer she will come up on the desk and throw herself down be it on the desk, or keyboard.
Occasionally she will lay quietly beside me on perch on a shelf above the monitor.
Why does she do this "throwing" herself down behaviour.
I'm worried she will get stood on one of these days.

Oh. my Bailey does this. She runs ahead of me and flings herself on the floor right where I am going to walk. I guess that I would only stop and give her a belly rub in one part of the hallway, because now, she will meow and lead me there, then fling herself down, and roll around on her back.

I haven't stepped on her yet, although she near tripped me a few times. I have learned to walk always looking at the floor ahead of me.

What do you do with her when she does this?

Maybe I shouldn't but I step over her and ignore it.
The male cat never does anything even similar.

Nope you are doing the right thing, except don't step over her, move around her. Don't even come near her when she does this, but when she gets up, give her plenty of lovin-

Kia, maybe you can give her allocated "play time" (on your terms of course, not when she's misbehaving!!) - but give her your undivided attention, get out a few of her favorite toys and run around with her!!!

We found this really helped with wearing our boys out and gradually they became less "demanding"!

Hissy is right, that worked with my Bailey. The only place she flings herself in front of me now is the one spot that I would stop and rub her belly. And it only took a few days for her to work it out. I don't even talk to her when she does it somewhere else.

It's very cute now, when I come in the room, she runs to the spot, and flings herself on the floor, then waits for me to come over. Its the one place in the hallway where it is wide enough for a flopped over cat, and a person.

My cat does the same thing with flinging himself in front of me and then if I step over or around him he grabs my foot and I end up dragging him along because I can't shake him off!

It's become a game that we play and it'll probably go on until I trip over him and get fed up with it.

Actually Gandalf always throws himself down when he lays down, I've noticed. I'm not sure he knows how to lay down without just flopping over. My parent's cat did the same thing until a few years ago when I think she just got too old.

Samwise will only throw himself down in the mornings when I get ready to leave the apartment. Im a big sucker though and can't resist reaching down to give him a pet.

Ours do this a lot and every kitten, has grown up being stepped on a few times and learning the ropes. lol Its natural.

If we have time, we rub the belly and play, if not, we talk nicely and go onto what we were going to do..no big deal.

So, is stepping over a cat a bad thing? Charlotte has taken to laying in front of doors and my only option is to step over her.
