I've gotten used to seeing pre-teens, dressed like streetwalkers (don't like it but, I'm used to it) but, these styles are filtering down to the pre-SCHOOL sizes.

A store, near my house, has toddler-sized clothes, that would make a hooker blush: skimpy tops with inappropriate sayings, rhinestone and sequin-studded t-shirts and short-shorts - all in sizes 2-6. Whatever happened to jeans, cartoon-character t-shirts and cute little dresses?

Today, I was shopping for shoes, for the twins' second birthday and had a heck of a time, finding some that did not have 1-2 inch heels. HEELS, for toddlers! WHAT are the designers, manufacturers and parents thinking? At two years old, I was wearing sneakers or patent-leather Mary Janes, with flat soles.

Whatever happened to kids, dressing like kids, rather than miniature tarts? Thank goodness, my granddaughters have parents and grandparents, with good sense and taste.

Ya know, I TOTALLY agree with you Cindy. I myself am an eccentric soul and to look at me you wouldn't think I'm all that conservative as a parent, but I REFUSE to let my 11-year-old dress like a tart (let alone when she was in pre-school!).

And it's MORE than just about the clothes... it's about teaching them boundaries and self-respect.

I know some of the things they have for little kids are shocking these days!

I'm 15 and I wear mini skirts, but I love them and I'm not trying to look like a hooker or anything. It makes me cringe though when I see kids under 5 wearing short skirts and things.

I don't have a problem with short skirts, as long as they're not at crotch height. Some of mine are 3-4 inches above the knee and I'm notorious for my 3-5 inch heels. However, I am an adult and dress like one. (Face it - I'd look ridiculous in a pink, frilly dress, lacy anklets and flat Mary Janes).

Kids should look and dress like kids - NOT hookers. I buy brightly-colored shorts and tops for the girls and fancy shoes. Despite my love for sky-high heels, I will NOT buy them for the twins, until they are MUCH older.

Last year, when they were learning to swim, I bought them one-piece flotation swimsuits - practical and decent. This year, I have gotten them one-piece suits, with "grass" skirts. Too cute! Besides, a string bikini looks funny with eco-pants sticking out of it.

I couldn't agree more!, and once they have their make up on it's very hard to tell how old they really are?!.

I know of two male friends who have "nearly" went with girls who they took to be 18-19 years old but found out just in time that they were only 14!!!!.......wheres the parents in all this???????????????

I was in town a couple of weeks ago and there was 4 girls aged 11-12 who had the school uniforms on of "The sacred Heart School" which is a catholic school for girls which "used" to be run by nuns several years ago, but just has your normal teachers now. They were all standing there in short skirts, lipgloss, mascara etc.. admiring the highlights in the hair of one of the girls, "highlights!" at that age my mum still had my hair tied in plats!!!.

Bring back the nuns because they would have none of that!.

I find it appaling also!
Im 18 and i refuse to even wear half of the clothes they have on sale.
I find the t-shirts with writing to be boring and disgusting.
But i do love 2 t shirts i have
One has a princess cat saying Purrrincess and the other one has a Good kitty on the front and bad kitty on the back.
My friend sent me a t shirt saying "QUEEN OF B*tches!" and i have never ever worn it!

I have to admit because im getting older im changing style to wear, but the ones they have for teens and toddlers is appaling.
How bad is it to see "Little B*tchy" on a baby?

Hmm my friends are 16.

A lady I know gave me a T-shirt a few years ago that says "TrailorPark Princess" I've still got it. I've only worn it a few times as a joke!

In addition, I can't stand that teen fashion also drowns out the adult age group, too. Sorry, gang, but I prefer straight-leg jeans that aren't super 'low riders', but good luck finding them anywhere.

I see a bit of that around here, but really not too much. Especially not much in Ormond. Kids, for the most part, still dress like little kids. I'm sure that Orlando has a problem with it, being a bigger city, but Ormond is fairly small. I've thought it was ridiculous for years now though that so much of the trends for young kids is to look like "mini-adults." What drives me even more nuts is when people will look at these kids and blame them. At the ages this is a problem, which I would say is anyone dressing like that who is under 13 (so middle school and below) the clothing is being bought by the parents. Parents should be monitoring what their own kids are wearing, just like they should what they're watching, what video games they're playing, who they hang out with, etc. It's just called lax parenting when these things happen.

I wasn't even allowed a pair of 1" pumps until I was in highschool!!! My mother approved every outfit before we purchased it, but I never went for the edgier stuff anyway - I was ALL tomboy. Kinda worked out good for my parents, because even at the tender age of 13 I was approached by guys from 3 to ten yrs older. (Early bloomer. I wish I had a video camera each time I told a young man that I was "jail-bait" - priceless!)

I can't believe the lack of modesty, not just in clothes but in all-around behavior, these days. When I was young (not all that long ago) and a toddler girl raised her skirt up as kids do, she was SCOLDED by her parent for being immodest. This is the beginning of their training for what is appropriate. Nowadays I see little girls do this and mom just rolls her eyes, like "what are ya gonna do?" It's called parenting - teaching the child that its' not appropriate behavior.

I haven't seen too many 'problem' outfits in my kindergarten classroom, but I actually did have an incident last week where one of my little girls wore a very low cute halter dress and our principal had to ask her to keep her sweater on all day. She was upset about it because she really didn't understand why the principal was making her do it. I couldn't believe the way her mother dressed her for school that day!

I cannot believe how disgusting some of this is!
I teach school, and some of my 3rd-5th graders look like 20 year olds.

Lately, several women at work have been sent home, because of inappropriate dress: backless or off-the-shoulder tops or too-short skirts and shorts.

Our dress code isn't THAT difficult to follow. Jeans, non-offensive T-shirts, skirts and shorts, no more than 3" above the knee are fine.

With adults, who have no sense of what is proper dress, is it any wonder that the kids don't have a clue?

I have to agree with some of the others, when I go to buy clothes it can be hard to find non-silly stuff! Everything in the girls section (I'm rather small) is pastel pink, and the shorts are all WAY too short. The woman's clothing is a bit too dressy for me. I am a cargo-pants and T-shirts (okay, a little tight T-shirts, but not innapropriately so!) kinda girl. Usually I just end up in the boys section.

At the preschool level though, I agree. It's up to the parents to teach their children. Although I don't think a preschooler should be scolded for lifting her skirt up, she should be told that it's not the right thing to do.

Deb, try these:

I'm hippy, with a bit of a belly and the classic-fits are perfect for me. I just wish that I could get them in purple.

Ah, just wait til you get to my age (58). I bought my first pair of black leather pants 2 yrs ago and love them. (My boss told me at Christmas when I wore them one day that I looked good in them!) I also wear my skirts about 3-4 inches above the knee. What the hey - at my age my legs are all I got left going for me.
I still have a pretty good body with great legs so I plan on going with it as long as they still hold out. My dear old mom told me I was too old to wear short skirts! LOL

I may dress a bit young .. I am 27 and wear polos with slacks or stirrups... But kids should be parented like many have said.... I first noticed this mini adult trend when my little sisters 12 and 15 years younger were in the early primary grades.. they had clothes that my mom wouldnt let me out of the house in now....p s they arent blood related .. long story
