My 10 year old spayed female has been having problems with her bottom lately. Sometimes after she gets up from sitting on the floor, there will either be a spot of bloody mucus or poop on the floor. There was a time when she jumped on my lap and sat down, and there was a lot of liquidy poop that got on me. Yuck! I took her and wiped her bottom, and wiped off quite a bit of watery stool. Her bowel movements have been normal, and her weight is good. She is very active. Any thoughts??

Please go to the vet and have the baby checked out with a senior panel

Yep at her age you should take her to the vet and get a blood panel run.

Awwww ... this brings back memories of my old girl (now at Rainbow Bridge). She was always so fastidious about her little box activites until she got older - I wiped her butt for her too. She seemed to appreciate it so much. *sigh* I miss her.

It sounds like a fecal exam may be in order as well as a senior blood panel too - the bloody mucous may or may not be from straining ... has she been at all constipated recently? It may also indicate internal parasites, coccidia comes to mind when I think of bloody mucous. Best to have her vet see her and run some tests.

Please let us know how it goes? I have a soft spot in my heart for the geezers.
