Tracey Gold on Oprah (DUI)

Did anyone see Tracey Gold talking to Oprah about her DUI Conviction (she was in a car accident that injured her husband and 2 out of 3 of her children). She got sentenced to community service and probation.

I was wondering what anyone thought about how she was on Oprah... and about the scenario overall...

I actually I saw her, I couldnt sleep last night and watched about 15 minutes of it. I mean she seems very troubled.

I didn't fully buy her "I only thought i had 2 glasses of wine" line however she is really tiny and I know it's surprising how little it takes to get legally drunk. That was the approach Oprah took this is a wake up call, most of us have done it, gone to a party had a couple of drinks and got into a car thinking we are fine. However she lost control of the car so it must have been more than a little tipsy.

I wonder why she and her husband did not decide beforehand that one of them would not drink at all, since one of them was going to have to drive home. Have they not heard of "designated drivers"?

Exactly my question, I can not believe that people think that it's okay to have even a couple of drinks and still be okay to drive. Especially when you have your children in the car you'd think they'd appoint a designated driver. My friends and I have a program when we go out, one person simply does not drink at all. Now admittedly I am normally that person but at least at the end of the night we don't have to worry about someone getting hurt due to their tipsiness or drunkness.

Plus she is or was anorexic and that will forever affect you. Not that I am saying that this is a reason to drink. There is NEVER any reason to drink. I didn't see the interview though, and wish I did. I have a dear friend who is battling alcoholism, and I fear the bottle is winning over the soul.

I hear ya Hissy - and agree with you. My father was an alcoholic and it is what killed him (liver cirrhosis at 57 years old). There is never a reason anyone HAS to drink.

Maybe it's judgemental of me to say so, but a couple with 3 kids should make more a conscious effort to discuss who's driving at the end of the night. TG partially blamed her husband in the interview saying he was always the one to drive when they travel as a family, and she didn't know he was drunk until the end of the night. Honestly, at that point they should have stayed where they were or taken a cab home. She says her husband convinced her she'd be ok to drive. Can we say irresponsible parents?

AND ya know, I'd probably cut her more slack if she only had 1 beer (though I don't agree) all afternoon... but her blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit. At 100 lbs that would mean she would have been had at least about 5 beers or glasses of wine. She wasn't exactly sipping on 1 beer all day.

We've had alcoholism all up and down my family, so I know how hard it is for someone struggling with the disease.
That being said....she received a slap on the wrist for what she did. She needs to be labeled for what she now is- a child abuse. Yes, driving drunk with your children in the car IS child abuse. And you know what they say about drunk drivers- that is probably not the first time they drove drunk, it's just the first time they got CAUGHT. It angers me so much how celebrities get slapped on the wrist in the judicial system. When a court case is that public, they should be punished the same as anyone else would. Argh.

I do admit I am judgement about it too. I mean I am so paranoid about drinking and driving when it's just me, let alone if I was driving kids.

I honestly wouldn't doubt that she could get drunk on two glasses of wine, I've seen it happen at work quite often. It's crazy, but it can happen. I've gotten too tipsy to drive off of two martinis myself, which is why I never drink more than one and space it out over an hour. She shouldn't have driven though, so it really isn't an excuse. How can you not know you're tipsy?
