LexisNexis, which compiles and sells personal and financial data on U.S. consumers, said Tuesday that personal information on 310,000 people nationwide may have been stolen. ... The thieves obtained information including addresses and Social Security numbers.

So take care and check your finances. Although letters have been sent to people who they suspect are affected, it does not hurt to be extra vigilent.

It's always good to be careful with that kind of info. Not paranoid mind you
just careful... Must be awful for the people affected though.

yeah, i try to be careful - as much as you can be these days. I usually shred all the papers going out into the trash, and make sure i never carry my SSN card, or anything else that combined with other info in my wallet can be used maliciously.

I heard on CNN that the data that could have been accessed includes medical records, credit information including some account information, as well as the personal information. They have contacted 30,000 people, and so far none of those contacted has reported any negative activity on their accounts.
