I am looking for a good, sturdy, rarely inexpensive kitty condo. I am not sure about the ones on ebay b/c I think I remember someone saying the ones on there are not sturdy. If anyone knows of a website with some good ones, let me know.

thanks

yes, if you or someone you know, is remotely handy i would suggest you build your own. you can customize the design and finish material, ensure it's made of strong components, and save a bundle - especially if you want a big tree. i built a tree 2'x2'x7'h for about $40 in material. i covered the legs with different types of material to see what the cats like and made platforms on different levels. they just love it for scratching, playing, and sleeping. i'll post some pics when i get a chance to upload them.

I got Monte's on ebay, I purchased it from Armarkat and it is very sturdy. It is 7 feet tall (the bottom also has a hammock that you can not see in the pic). I am not sure if you are looking for one this big, but this one was $117 with shipping and I have seen this type in the stores for $250+ (it has the sisal rope coverings). I thought about making one too, but after looking at the cost for the supplies, it was almost the same to just buy it and also If I did make it, it probably would tip over! LOL That in Monte is the little house!

I just love those little hammocks. They have one condo with a little hammock in a pet store, and it's just adorable. How much did you pay for shipping on that?
Was it easy to assemble?

Is it sturdy? B/c those are the ones that I have/had been looking at on ebay. You have a sphynx (by the way, very cute) and if he is anything like my Devon Rex, they love their condos. I do like the size of yours and considering that I am adding another Devon kitten to the family in a few weeks it will be big enough for the 2 of them.

thanks

I paid $72 for it and shipping was $45 and it was actually easy to put together. I will say it did help having both my husband and I helping each other! It is very sturdy and Monte loves it! Here is the picture off the listing I bought.

I made my own, some time ago! I would definiely recommend building your own, as you can make them as sturdy as you'd like them - also a LOT cheaper! You can also add on to them, extend and develop as you find out the parts that your kitty likes!

If you'd like to see a pic of mine of any more help on it, give me a PM!

it would be sort of neat if we could have a thread where we put down some of the ways which we've made (or have dreams of making) the condos. Personally, I like the idea of making one for Chester (and my parents kitties) but I have the feeling that the base would be too small, or I wouldn't use the right stuff. If we all added in our opinions, maybe we can come up with some really cool condos!
just a thought, of course

I will post some pics of my babies soon. My boy is 1 and we are getting a new kitten on April 30th. We have 1st pic, after the breeder, so as soon as we get back I will have to post some pics. Thanks for the info on your condo.
