I have something of an anatomy question. My kitty (11mos now) has a little bump at the tip of his tail. It's at the very end, on the side. I was just wondering if this was a natural shape of the vertebrae? I have looked at it an its nothing on top of the skin, its under. Nor does it bother my kitty to be touched there. I have no other cat to check this on, but is this a normal lump, just the way the bone is formed, or is it something I should get checked out?

wow... how interesting

Marsh has something similar, he has a 'bend' in his tail, right at the very end, about 3/4th of an inch from the end, maybe 15% turn. You can't see it, but you can definitely feel it if you move your hand along his tail. Our vet said it's no biggie

Its probably something congenital unless it wasn't there before. One of my cats tail tip was either broken shortly after he was born or ,it formed like that in the womb ,it is very crooken on the end ,another one has the same thing ,it is not noticeable like th others, but I can feel it with my fingers.

My mom's cat has a crook in her tail, and I've seen others like that as well. It was a deformity that she's had her entire life. We did find out last year (she's 12 now) that she was also born with a congenital arthritis, but I don't know if that is related. The rule of thumb is if it is new, take him to a vet. If it's been there the whole time, I would just keep an eye on it to see if it bothers him.
