So, this past weekend Jerry and I worked outside in our yard both days. We rebuilt our flower beds out front with those decorative stones that Lowes/HomeDepot sells. Well, anyway, that's not the point of this. I guess I shared that because my arms are sore and I need some sympathy. We got alot of fresh air and sunshine, which I loved.

Anyways, the point to this thread......

I had gone downstairs to do some laundry, when I hear Jerry yell in the sidedoor my name. I could tell from the tone of his voice and that he yelled Susan that he meant business. Usually he yells Hon, and more softly......so I run to the bottom of the steps to look up at him, and he tells me to lock all the doors. I go upstairs and ask him what he's talking about. I guess the police were on our street, going through all the back yards, including ours, looking for a guy in a red jacket. Not sure what he was wanted for. So, I ran around the house locking all the doors. I was beautiful out, so everything was open. I think they found him hiding behind our neighbors garage 2 house down.

That type of thing is a rare occurance at our house, but still, it gives you the heebeejeebees.

About 10 years or maybe 15 now, in my Mom's neighborhood, a guy came in and shot his exwife in the head, killing her at the nearby McDonalds. What a tradedy. She was pregnant with twins. The police scoured our neighborhood, and warned everyone to keep thier doors locked, etc. He had taken off on foot. About 4 days later, an elderly couple found him in their downstairs pantry, hiding and very scared. The wife called the police and the kid went willingly. As a matter of fact, the wife made him a sandwich while they waited. (didn't take very long for the police to get there though)
The husband even talked the guy into giving him the gun........

What is this world coming too.........have you all had any scares in your neighborhood?

oh gosh! How scary... it is amazing what go's on you know...

Well, in my neighbourhood, this guy has just been jailed for cannibalisim.

He was registered under the mental health act and then released as doctors said nothing was wrong with him. He went to visit his friend (who lives in my neighbourhood) and killed him then fried his brains and ate them
Some of you reading from the UK might have heard about this already.

Anyway, when they finally caught up with him he said that the reason he did it was because his local KFC was closed.... (the KFC that I visit...!!!)

Since then, he has also killed someone else whilst in prison I think but he was caught before he managed to eat them....

Beth, when I am home, I do have my windows open, but when I'm gone, like now, all the kits all locked up tight. I want live in fear, but I will use caution.

I always lock my doors and windows when I go out in the day etc
I have been living alone for just under 2 years and I am still scared to leave any windows open during the night. I am living in a 1st floor maisonette (flat) even so, you still don't know if someone will try and get in even when I am there... lol

(oh and I sleep with the hallway light on...)

A few years ago, a neighbor got in a car accident, threatened the other person and fled the scene. The police came to our building and arrested him with guns drawn (there was a lot of "Get down on the floor!"). Later, they came through with a police dog to sniff if he had dropped a weapon or drugs

Yikes Susie! How scary! Luckily I live in a pretty safe neighborhood now, but I do get nervous when the alarm goes off on the door to the roof (we live on the top floor not far from the stairs to the roof). When I was a kid though my family lived in a really dangerous neighborhood. We used to live in a first floor apartment, right at the foot of the stairs, and when I was in the seventh grade a guy who lived on the second floor got shot in the leg at the top of the stairs, staggered down, and tried to get into our apartment. It was pretty scary.
