Okay I have a 1 year old kitty And just adopted a male kitty that is 6 months old and was suposed to be fixed. well about a month ago we noticed our females belly was getting big and she had nipples. the last few weeks she has grown very big and she is now open with clear discharge. She looks like she is going to explode. and sleeps all day and does not like to be touched. I do not know when she went in heat so I do not know how far along she is, what do you think?

I can not take her to the vets because she will not even let us go near her. late at night she lets me rub her belly and I think she is going to pop any day, but since I have never gone thru this what do you think?

I need to put her in my room around delivery date because we have a 16 week old siberian husky pup that I am afraid will eat the babys, and 3 little kids that do not understand the meaning not to touch. I have a bed made for her but she will not lay in it we have tried everything she justs wants to be on the bare floor.

Any help would be great!

Hi!!! My cat was a year old and she just had her first litter of kittens 2 days ago. Its so fun. If you have any idea when she was mated they usually have then anywhere between 57- 67 days... anywhere you look will tell you averages inbetween there. All female cats will have nipples, but if pregnant you'll notice they will get bigger, more noticeable, and alot pinker or even red. Their stomach will get very round and you may even notice a pudge between her back legs. You really need to take her to a vet because her can tell you how close she is and how many she is having. Without knowing this you could lose the babies or even the momma. And it will help knowing when she is done giving birth. The discharge usually isnt a color, only clear, until a few days prior to labor. And their should'nt be much, nor should their be ANY BLACK!!!! My cat had a cardboard box with a whole cut out of it and towel and old newspaper put inside for her. Don't force her to go into it. Put it into an open closet or somewhere dark and private so she can feel her babies will be safe. My cat never went into her box until the week before delivery and then had her babies on our floor, but carried them to the box afterwards. Its so neat to have kittens, they are so cute. As for the birth, if you see the mother actively pushing for more than 30 minutes you need to see a vet ASAP. The mother will usually eat the ambilical cord and placenta and clean/nurse her babies. My cat did so but after finished delivering wouldn't feed her babies. The vet told us to give it a few hours and the next morning she was the perfect mommy. Sometimes new mom's need alittle help!! Good luck! If you need anything just let me know!!! Check out these websites, I used them and liked them alot. www.sniksnak.com www.cat.lifetips.com www.cathelp-online.com www.talktothevet.com www.cats.about.com www.petcaretips.com or even call your local vet and they will talk to you about it.

Also I dont think you would be able to see if her bottom area was open or not. Usually cat dialation is not visible to use until the babies are coming out. You may notice the her behind looks alittle more puffy then usually though. Good Luck!

As I stated I can not take her to the vet she will not let anyone near here right now and after calling the vet he told me do not dtress her out. I can rub her belly but thats it! I know she is far along but not sure how far. the male kept getting on her but was rubbing all over her back and since we were told he was fixed we just thought it was a typical guy thing
he did that on and off for 3 months we went on vacation from feb 28th-march 5th. when we came home we noticed her swollen belly(big time) and her big swollen nipples. since then shes gotten very moddy and very huge! And I said I see her open because in the last week her vaginal opening has opend more and more everyday. today it is about the size of a pencil eraser(the actual opening) and there has been clear discharge for 1 week, but no milk yet(vet said they do not always get there milk in before birth) I just need to know an estimate of about how far she is. It has been 1 month and 6 days since her belly started to bulge.

Still Hittin' 'Em Right Between The Eyes
The normal gestation period for cats is 63 to 65 days give or take depending on individuals ... AND ... not that this is of any use to you now, but you must keep a male cat who has been recently neutered away from any sexually mature females for at least a month - they still have the capability AND the mechanics to impregnant for that long afterwards.

Now for your question about how far along she is ... When did your boy get neutered? If he was mounting her "on and off for three months" then my guess is that she got pregnant sometime around the end part of February or beginning of March. That would put the arrival anywhere from the end of April to the beginning of May. If you are just now beginning to see movement, then that would put her somewhere right around four to six weeks or so.

You have mentioned that she won't let anyone near her ... is she your housecat or is she a stray you adopted? You have to be able to get near her and touch her, especially since she is expecting a litter. What will you do if there are problems and you can't get near her?

I think you miss understood or maybe I'm a wreck and miss typed what I was thinking in my head so hear it goes.

In jan we adopted a kitten that was 6 months old. We were told he was neuterd at 12 weeks old. He started mounting her right after bringing him home and still trys to mount her. We noticed enlarged nipps and swollen belly march 5th. (acording to vet she was about 30 days into prgnency due to the large size of her belly) she has always been very very lovable but after we returned home march 5th she has been very moody. We started feeling babies about march 10th and now is very very large, has had a clear discharge for about 4 days. the babies feel very large when you put your hand on her belly and very active but recently in the last week activity has slowed like there is no room. And for the last week her opening is opening more, today is about the size of a pencil eraser. She only lays on her back and will let you rub her belly but if you try to pick her up or move her she gets very ticked off and leaves very very painful scratches. I plan on putting her in our room tonight but I work nights and shes very small so i need to be there and need to get an estimate. from what people tell me shes very close but the thing that has me stumped is she is not showing signs of nesting, and she is not producing milk I just have no clue how far along she would actually be and I dont want to say yeah in a few days and start freaking because they are not here for another few weeks.

i'm a bit confused but is your male cat neutered or not? is he the father?

she'll find herself a safe spot away from the hustle and bustle of family life but maybe offer her a few places so shes feels more in control?

might be easier to keep yor pup seperated from her as she's likely to get mean with him if they dont get on.

we used a huge cardboard box with a hole for her to go in and out too. that way it made a nice nest once cleaned up after the birth. plus you can open it up from the open side if you need to.

only a vet can tell you how far along she is. Maverick showed no signs and we didnt even know for sre she was pregnant until her waters broke as she didnt even show.
