I am really worried about my pregnant cat. The vet had told me she would have the kittens by tomorrow. I set up 4 different nesting boxes in different areas around the basement where we stay and I have not been able to find her anywhere since this morning. In the storage area the basement is a cold tile and I am afraid she is there somewhere and I afraid to move anything that might disturbe her if she is in labor.
She was really friendly this morning when I woke up, but when I tried to rub her tummy she swatted at me and tried to bite.
Do you think she will be okay having her babies on the cold floor, or should I move everything around and try to find her?

If you know she is inside and she didn't get outside, just go into the room you think she is in, sit on the floor and be very quiet. You should be able to hear her. Call to her quietly, but don't start moving things around, instead, lay on the floor on your belly and look around to see if you can see her-

Yes, and I was quite surprised how vocal the newborns were. They woke me up out of a sound sleep. So I would think you would be able to find them that way. Even if she's on a cold floor, you can arm yourself with towels, and a hot water bottle!

If you can't hear her, then you need to find her (because she could be stuck or hurt) But you do it slowly and carefully and as quietly as you can. Divide the room into sections and systematically hunt for her, even in places you think she can't get into. Cat's can really get into almost any space. She will be looking for a warm, dark quiet place if she was ready to give birth. Good luck!

I found her! and 3 healthy baby kittens. She had crawled into the bedroom closet, she had torn a plastic bag that had some blankets in and had them in there. I have moved them away from the plastic bag, so they would not sufficate and put them in one of the boxes I had set up and Mom and babies are doing fine. Thanks for the info. I did find them by hearing their cries.
