What do you mean by passive aggressive?
Funny thing is that I thought people in Toronto are real nice, especially the drivers. The action of Bay street and the nice shopping and little restaurants of Yorkville. And all the various restaurants with cuisine from all across the world are yummy. One thing that I thought was a pity is the tight restraints on Toronto Islands, which could if developed properly, be a real sanctury away from the city yet right next to the city. But I guess, you are right staying in a city sometimes makes one scream.

I recall going through a small touristy town near niagara called niagara on the lake sometime back and thought it looked lovely. Also while walking about saw the local estate agent with pictures of houses some overlooking the niagara river. And they are relatively cheap as compared to houses right smack in the city.

You're just pulling my leg, right?

Well... perhaps if you come from New York or a large eastern city, you may find Torontonians friendly. In addition, if you're simply visiting the city, that's a far different scenario that if you're actually living here.

"Action on Bay St... nice shopping and little restaurants of Yorkville?" Your pocketbook is obviously much thicker than mine, because as a Torontonian, the majority of my salary is spent on rent and transit costs!

And existing in such an Americanized, consumerist culture, that promotes capitalistic greed (who has the most toys - and the best property - wins) certainly does not represent my idea of the true meaning of life. I actually feel genuine pity for those that get caught up in in.

Thanks for hitting the nail right on the head, and providing me with even more reasons to leave!

Hmm I guess, you are right it is kind of comparative. I always thought of Toronto as a big city with small town charms or a well mannered big city. I spent a bit of time in the city (several months) and really enjoyed it, no joke! Most of my impression of Canadians came from that short stay in Toronto and those are good impressions. I guess you have to be lucky with your rent because I got to know this gal who had a lovely two bedroom apartment that cost less than $1000 due to rent control.

I did a tiny bit of exploration in Toronto mostly led by my tummy. And I love the CN tower for whenever I am lost in my exploration I just look for it to get my bearings. I found one nice Chinese restaurant in ChinaTown, where $5 gets me a good meal. Also to the west of yorkville past the university I found some cheap yet good all you can eat Indian buffet. Also there is this place that does amazing things with eggs in the downtown. Oddly enough I did not really find any good Italian restaurant in little Italy. oh no, now I am sooo hungry.

Gasp
consumerist culture! That is what I live for
together with love. All you need is love and consumerist greed ... and maybe a cat or two.

If only someone could invent that StarTrek "Beam me up scotty" device then we could all be living near mountains and forests or beside an ocean. Do post pictures of the mountains for us city folks to admire and drool.

Absolutely, Toronto does have it's charms but they don't lie in the overpriced housing, public transit, and stressed-out corporate culture, that's for sure!

If you want to visit a big Canadian city with small town charm, try Montreal or Calgary. Hell, any city in Canada beats Toronto in that respect.

There are some nice things about Toronto, including the ethnic diversity, the quaint neighbourhoods, and yes, you can get GREAT meals for under $10 here. And it would be difficult should I ever decide to quit my job and work outside of the city... the job market here is the best in the province, and it's unlikely I would find comparable work and pay elsewhere.

But taking everything into consideration, decisions must be made, and I'm confident everything will pan out!

So when you say north, you mean NORTH! Cottage country, huh? Sounds good. Maybe we'll have a TCS waterskiing weekend on the vacation next year!
My parents have been saying they'll probably move up there once all the kids are out and they can retire (my brother is still in high school). They'll probably go somewhere up around Minden or Bancroft. Anyway, congrats on the move. It's beautiful up there, I'm sure you and your "goblins" will love it!

As a person who lives "in the country" I think you will be happy with your move.
City life isn't cut out for everyone. Once in a while I think of what it would be like for lets say pizza delivery but oh well those are the trade offs!!
Good luck with your relocation efforts.

Yep, I definitely mean NORTH!
If there's forest, lakes for canoeing, and I can hear the loons... that is where I'll be calling home.
And thanks!
Again, I don't know exactly where I'm going yet, but I have a general idea.

Hearing the loons, going canoeing and breathing the clean air will all be SO worth it.
I'd choose that over take-out anyday! Thanks Gail!

What are the loons? Is it something to do with the money? Like loonie, toonie? But that cannot make sense based on your sentence.

Nothing to do with money. A loon is bird which makes a very distinctive and beautiful call. You can often hear them on lakes in Northern Ontario early in the morning.

You're a lawyer, aren't you?
I'm getting a strong lawyer vibe...

OHH, I see, it all makes sense. That duck on the dollar is not a duck but a loon hence loonie. hehe. Maybe I may have heard of the bird call but just did not realise it was a loon since I did go up north to some of the national parks.

Lawyer vibe
what gave me away? Do tell. What is a lawyer vibe?

Right... but that doesn't explain the twoonie.

Well, I know loads of lawyers and therefore have lawyer radar.
Actually just spoke to a friend today, and though she's always busy (1st year associate), we're going to do coffee or dinner sometime this week.

How do you make time for a cat?
