My babies are sick. I just spent 2,000.00 on Opie's operation and I'm broke....I'm totally freaking out...will someone please help me. My Cary is breathing out of his mouth. His eyes are watering. Last nite he was running a temp. I felt it, but it must've broke. Today, he's eating and drinking, but right now, he's on his side sleeping and breathing through his mouth. I'm watching the amount of breaths he's taking compared to his brother who is sick, but not as sick as he is. I've given him 1/4 tablet of amoxycillan...it's the only thing I have. I'm not a vet; I'm scared to death that I did the wrong thing. I gave that to him a whole one last nite not knowing that I could've killed him!

I know this started as a cold and they must've caught if from Murphy. They were seperated, but not enough. Murphy has it again. I just want to know if my baby is going to die...please help me and tell me what I can do to make him last through one more nite before I can have the vet see him....I just pray to God he's going to be okay.

Hon, if you can't get him to the vet right away, all you can do is watch him and make sure he is drinking enough. If it is a cold that has settled in his chest, then amoxi may not be enough. There are a few things that can cause them to breath through the mouth. I am not going to list them because I don't want you to panic. Just keep a close eye on him and let the vet take a look tomorrow.

Sandie,
I won't panic...please tell me, maybe I will notice a symptom. I'm going to try to come up with some money for the ER, but I pray I have enough for the meds. I don't know if he'll last. I don't know what to think. When he wakes up, sometimes he plays with his brother...what in the world is this? His eyes were really bad today until I put that ointment in it. I remember telling you about Murphy's eyes. Well, this seems to be the same cold that Murph had and still has AGAIN! He was better and then either relapsed or they may have had it and gave it back to him??? Is that possible? I don't know.

He seems okay, but it's so hard to tell...what do you think?

Catarina
Thanks Sandie

I just read that he had trouble with his eyes this morning. That would be more condusive to an upper respitory infection of sorts. He may be breathing with his mouth open because his nose is plugged up. What other symtoms is he having? If he is drinking, thats a very good sign. Usually when they stop drinking and get dehydrated, thats when they start to go downhill.

Murph was diagnosed with an upper respiratory infection. I think this is the same thing. Murph wasn't quite as bad, but then again, kittens are much more delicate as you know.
Anyway, he's eating, I haven't really seen him drinking, but then again, I never see them drink much. Kinda tricky question there, but I have pulled his skin and it springs back okay...he's purring, he's sneezing and hacking. Not good...but I wonder if he can last till the morning. He went through this last nite. He pulled through, I know he had a temp then. I was sooo scared I watched him through the morning then he ate first thing of course and we slept all day together...He played like a banchi with his brother, but I just don't know Sandie.

I appreciate all this info. You're an Angel!!
Love,
Catarina

Well, I am not going to promise that he can't take a turn tonight and get worse, but usually odds are much better than that. With cats, especially the ones who have been exposed to virus's early on can have chronic respitory problems. I battled one with 2 of my cats for a year. The antibiotics they go on will prevent secondary baterial infections they may get. If you are worried about the water intake, you can try and get him to eat more wet food. If he has a stuffy nose, you can warm it a bit to help him smell it.

Right now he made his way over to my chair, jumped on my lap and is now biting my bellybutton ring and as I told Hissy a moment ago, his snotty nose is all over my belly! LOL Sandie, I just don't get it..he seems so good until he sleeps and then it looks so scary. I'll do my best with the food as you suggested. I'm sure he'll eat...the little monster never fails in that area! I'll keep you posted of course!
Love YOU!!!

How is he doing now Cat?

If he's eating and playing that's a good sign. If he's eating canned food then maybe he doesn't need extra water.

Hi there Anne
Thanks for asking. Well, my vets assistant is going to see if there's any funds available through this program so my vet will look at him ;( I'm so disheartened. I give all my money to these people and then they won't see him with a payment plan?

Well thank God for my baby that he's doing much better this morning. He's still breathing a little funny, but he's eating canned food and he's playing so well with his brother and with Opie too.

I think he's going to get through this just fine. It's now time for the waiting game I'm so impatient; I want to see improvement like yesterday! I'll keep everyone posted and thanks so much for asking

Love,
Catarina
