Looking for Statistics on Cats in Shelters

Tybalt and I are making a video promoting cat adoption. (We were inspired by the No More Homeless Pets video, which we currently have a link to on our home page.)

What I am having trouble finding are the statistics specifically for cats, regarding the number turned in to shelters, the number adopted, the number returned to owner, and the number euthanized. I can find plenty of stats that lump cats and dogs in together, but none that are specific for cats.

If anyone has these figures, or can help me find them, I would really appreciate it!!!

Sue I have it on good authority from someone that works for the Humane Society of the U.S that the numbers are about equal.

Actually....I have the Virginia numbers for 2000-2003...the number of dogs euthanized is about 4 out of every 10....the number of cats is about 6 out of every 10. You can get the PDFs here:

If anyone can find an accurate figure, it's www.animalpeoplenews.org, which watchdogs as well as keeps up with the animal welfare world. Add them to your list of info sources.
