I knew that title would make you look!

I'm watching the royal wedding on TV and they announced that the royal couple will "admit their sins and wickedness" at their ceremony today. Would you ?

They have a air out their sins in order to have a successful marriage apparently. Maybe he should have done that at his first marriage if that the case. Oops! Don't want to turn this into a IMO thread

Well, I don't think they are going to share the actual ceremony with the public. Our UK friends can probably help us out on the real story.

This is what they had to say:
"We acknowledge and bewail our manifold sins and wickedness, Which we, from time to time, most grievously have committed, by thought, word and deed, Against thy Divine Majesty, Provoking most justly thy wrath and indignation against us. We do earnestly repent, And are heartily sorry for these misdoings."

You can read loads more about the whole wedding here

It's because it's a blessing ceremony in the Church rather than a wedding. The actual wedding was a civil ceremony - here the Church were just blessing the union.

It's really weird that the Church of England was set up by Henry VIII to allow him to divorce and remarry (because he wasn't allowed to as a Catholic) but in modern times, the CofE rarely allows people to remarry as they are meant to have sworns vows to remain true as long as they both shall live.

The airing of their sins was a Prayer from the CofE book of Common Prayer that the whole congregation say and it is called the Prayer of Repentance. It seems to be a move to provide some compromise for those who say their union shouldn't have been blessed because of their adulterous relationship.

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
I thought the blessing was lovely, and maybe everyone who gets married should say those words because lets face it weve all sinned somewhere down the line?!.

Susie thats normal for the Queen not to show any expression, thats how royalty from a young age are told to compose themselves, just like Dianas funeral where no one shed any tears, even her sons?!.

Well i hope they live happily ever after as they say in fairy stories because he certainly seemed happier than what he did at his first wedding

I think that after what they did to Diana, whether she was hard to handle or not, that some shadow of spirit will always be with them in this marriage. They will need to work hard to turn that kind of karma around. I hope they can. The person who they really need to apologize to isn't around to hear it. Maybe the Church can send a Memo up to heaven.

I agree, Susan. I also thought Camilla's gown was lovely - just right for the occasion.

Actually, there's quite a bit of speculation that Diana cheated on Charles first (with the bodyguard who died in an accident), so maybe karma caught up with her? That might sound harsh, but I didn't buy her "poor me" act. Maybe she'd read too many of her step-grandmother's books and was all starry-eyed about becoming a princess, but she herself said she knew he loved Camilla before the wedding, and went ahead with it nevertheless. She certainly rarely missed an opportunity to put him in a poor light.
