What was the first album (for us older TCS'ers
)/cd/tape that you went out and purchased for yourself? And how old were you?

I bought my first album when I was around 12 years old...it was Alice Cooper's "School's Out" album!

Oh goodness...this is a pretty sad confession....

My first tape that was really MINE was Sylvia, Just Sylvia. It was when her song "Nobody" was on the Top 40 charts.
I was like 9.

I think the first thing that I actually bought myself (I had Mom buy me the Sylvia tape) was either Van Halen, 1984 (my sister and I went in together to buy that one) or Twisted Sister, Stay Hungry. I was all of 11-12 when I got those.

NYC The Town so Nice, They Named it Twice!
"I Hear a Symphony" by Diana Ross and the Supremes..I'm guessing 1966 or '67, so I was about 10 or 11. It was a 45 RPM and I bet it only cost about 50 cents. Plus the bus fare to get downtown to buy it was only 15 or 20 cents, today it would be 2 bucks for busfare!

I'm very, very embarrassed to say that it was the single for Michael Jackson's "Beat It", and the single for Stevie Nicks' "Stand Back".

*sigh* I sound like such a goon.

I redeemed myself ever so slightly by then going out and buying Kiss - Lick It Up.

Oh, and Heidi, I humiliated myself lip-syncing Sylvia in a talent show in I think 6th grade. Mom bought the album on vinyl just for the occasion!!

Supremely excellent choice Hope!

I think the first tape I ever bought was the "Hanging Tough" tape by New Kids on the Block...

Well the first album I actually bought for myself was Elvis Presley The Hits from His Movies, yep I couldn't even buy a decent Elvis record I had to pick that one.

My first cassette was Madonna's True Blue

My first CD was Guns N Roses Appetite for Distruction, although I already owned it on tape. I also bought a Kenny G CD that same day, I got a CD player for my birthday and my Dad told me I could get a few CDs I'm sure I got some other CDs as well but for the life of me I can't remember what they were.

All that being said, I grew up around a pretty nice music collection to start with, my Mom was into the Beatles so we had a bunch of that around the house along with various Elvis and Country records of my Dads.

Home of Jon Bon Jovi!
It was the 5th grade...I got Michael Jackson's Thriller album and played it over and over for the entire year. After that, I made my first tape purchase, Bon Jovi's first album with Runaway on it... that's where the obsession began!
