I'm trying to drum up a romantic night at home and I work across from a liquor store so I figure wth (in PA booze is state regulated so I can't get it at the grocery store or anything).. But anyhow, I like wine but not that musty woodsy stuff.. I like the wine that the masses like, not the true wine lovers. The sweeter lighter stuff without the harsh kick to it.. And not Boone's Farm hehe. Any suggestions? My coworker suggested lambrusco but I don't know anything about brands or whatever. Any suggestions are welcome, I have til 5pm to decide..

Viognier is a nice light white wine, with a slight sweetness. It's Italian.
Gwertztraminer is a little sweeter, but nice too.

I don't know what your Lambrusco is like, but over here it's like fizzy juice?!, and it's only 5% proof.

I like a Rose wine myself because it's not sharp like some white wines can be, and it doesn't give you a headache like the red wines, and it's very easy to drink

Gwertztraminer is a real dry wine, just in case you're like me and don't care for dry.

We've had some Australian wines that were good. Pretty inexpensive. (Of course, I can't remember the brands now.
)

Generally, you can't go wrong with a Zinfandel or White Zinfandel. Goes with most meals too.

If you can find anything from Mazza Wines, get it. I'm not a big wine fan and I even like it. It is made in North East Pa, just east of Erie.

when i worked at a italian restuarant i couldnt drink any red wines because they tasted off and woody

But the house wine we served was Falanghina its not fizzy, its white wine but goes with most dishes you eat.

Lambrusco is a fizzy red wine and sweet.
If you are looking for a white alternate its called Frizzantina.

If you dont want alcohol in it.. there is the other version of lambrusco in your grocery store (well they did in australia) not sure about where you are.

remember which food you are going to serve.

Red meat = red wine
White meat = white wine

LOL. Well, if you're having Big Macs (red meat), a red wine is appropriate. However, if you were to have seafood (Filet-o-fish maybe???) or chicken (nuggets???), white wine works. A really good white wine is any reisling. Reislings are slightly sweet, not very bitter. They're good for people who sorta like wine but aren't into all that bitter stuff

With big macs I'd suggest the Franciscan Merlot
Otherwise, I think the Lambrusco sold in the US is pretty bad tasting and it has a screw off cap- which might not help with the romance. Maybe go for a White Zin like Beringer, it isn't very expensive and is a little sweet. What about sparkling wines? Martini and Rossi Asti is pretty good, especially if you make a belini out of it with some sort of fruit.

I wouldn't drink Lambrusco if someone paid me to. And I freaking LOVE any and all types of wine.

Ask the person working the desk if you don't know much about wines. There are really sweet white wines which make ya pucker, and then there's the softer, drier whites.

If you're more into red wine (better with Big Macs, in my opinion), try any kind of Merlot, or a Shiraz if you want something lighter red. Cabernet is a heartier red with more of an aftertaste.

Red wines go *excellent* with chocolate. Chocolate is what you're having for dessert, right? The darker the chocolate, the bolder the wine. mmm

White wines are good with lighter desserts, like Twinkies or angel food cake...

You can usually tell by the price & the name if the wine is going to be good, but the person working the liquor store ought to know about liquor & wine. If something is covered in dust and marked down to $6, do NOT buy it. It's crud. You may as well go buy some month-old grapes, take your shoes off, run around in dirt, squish the grapes, and scrape it up and put the slop into a glass & drink it, if ya buy the cheapola stuff!

I love White Zinfandel and it gets ripped by wine snobs. I get so annoyed with wine snobs, I have a friend whose husband is one.
