Hi guys,

apparently my neighbours cat has develped a lump under his chin. it is soft and just under 1cm from edge to edge... it's not hard. it just sort of feels like a firm mass... it is round and is flat. he can't get to the vet til sunday and was wondering if i would be able to post this for him in the mean time.

i felt it and it's sort of where the jaw conects to the neck, on the right side if i am standing facing the cat. his cat recently had teeth extracted on this side. could this be a reaction to that?

other wise the cat is eating and has no other signs of being ill.

I guess Sunday won't come fast enough, will it? Lumps on cats are usually not good news, but in this case, as you had commented he recently had extractions done, it may be a residual effect of that - but of course, it is best for the vet to have a look.

I hope you will keep us updated?

It could be an abscess. It might help to put warm compresses on the area a couple of time per day until he gets to the vet.

Healed over abscess? Sometimes the puncture mark is very small and hard to find without shaving the area. If the puncture mark heals over first, the abscess is sealed in and doesn't have the chance to drain. Better to see the vet now and have it drained before it bursts and the infection really kicks in, leading to an unhappy cat and a bigger vet bill.
