Hey everyone... at my job we have a bunch of cats, two of them had been pregnant, gave birth about two weeks ago and we haven't seen the kittens...

then along came another cat, a black one nobody had ever seen before, and you can tell she had a litter somewhere as well (by her belly and her nipples)

today a woman I worked with came back from her ciggerette break carring a wailing, crying tiny little all black kitten, it turns out he is 4 weeks old (I took him to the vet after work) and looks much to old to be one of the kittens of our 'regular' cats who live there, and we knew right away the black new cat was his momma... however, there was no mommy in site, and we were afraid what would happen to the little guy...

... I took it upon myself to take him to my vet (after panicing when every single coworker did the 'ohhh hes cute but noooo i cant' thing) my vet siad he is very healthy (confirmed it's a 'he') and that he is 4 weeks old, no fleas no worms, nothing but great news.

my intention WAS to find him a home... but I just feel so attached to the little guy I just cant give him up

and this isn't a problem I would LOVE another cat... however Leeloo... my first cat who is almost a year old now... needs to adapt.

I brought my new boy home in a carrier and Leeloo jumped up and smelled it and instantly she HISSED! I locked her out of the room, made sure my new guy got some food in him and then I snipped off a little bit of his hair for leeloo to smell (a coworker of mine said it worked good to get cats to adjust to one another) then she hissed at ME! something she has NEVER done! the only time I've ever seen her hiss is at the vet and its because she was recently spayed...

I'm in love with my new boy and it would kill me to have to give him up, so are there any tips on how to make my Leeloo adjust to her new brother??I guess I'd be happy just knowing he was in a good home, but I want him with me, and I had been thinking for awhile that Leeloo could use some company since she is indoor only and is by herself when I am at work.

as soon as I get a chance I'll take some pictures of the little guy, he's honestly the cutest thing I have ever seen in my life... I'm so in love

Oh Yuna, I"ve been there and I know how you feel. W e found Petals at 4 weeks. Once I found out she didn't have any contageous diseases to give to Trixie, we put a big cage in the middle of our living room and let Trixie sniff her through the cage for 2-3 days. It was great. yes, there was hissing in the beginning, lots of it, but with in 72 hours, they were fine together. When we found Tiggy, we did the same thing..........and it worked like a charm......

Good luck and I'm so glad you have your new boy.........it will be fine....just be patient and give LeeLoo some extra love.....

hi good luck with the little kitty, and well done for giving him a home.
When i got norbert, molly and the girls hissed and spat at him, tiggy just ignored him. they were all getting along fine until scoobie (mollys girl) had her litter, now they all gang up on him when he gets to close. i feel sorry for him but at the same time its soooooo funny. its like having an army to guard scoobie lol

somehow, i keep thinking about the mama-cat, looking for her kitten
Maybe it was a conscientious choice, to get the kitten to safety, but you never know, maybe mom was close by, and just didn't come out when her baby was snatched? Post-fact, the best thing to do would have been to trap the mom as well.

In any case, i think the kitten is adorable, and yeah, if you follow the links, the cats will adjust fine to each other.

we think something might have happened to the mom, she hasnt been around and there are no other kittens walking around as old as he is, we think that she put him there for safety and then either went back to where she had come from or something bad happened to her, I was looking for the mom earlier... we try to catch all the cats out back and take them to get spayed/neutered, but they are so hard to catch, and all of us had only seen this one mother a couple times, she was new to the bunch. Then this kitten just appeared out of nowhere yesterday, and ran straight up to my coworker crying and begging at her foot poor guy.

At four weeks old, this wee one should still be on formula with several feedings daily. If he is eating food for you, just be sure that you have formula you can give him, put it in a jar lid and see if he laps it up? Some outside kitties take to food faster just because they see mom eating anything and everything that she can to stay alive. He probably has siblings out there as well, I hope you find them as well. I would be putting kitten chow outside for the pregnant moms- they are going to need it-

I had a similar situation with Buzz. If we didn't capture him he would have been dead with all of the other litter mates, plus he had a staph infection in his eye. They died from distemper after being captured by a rescue group a few days after we caught Buzz.

On that note, your baby is very cute. He needs to be on kitten formula. We bottle fed buzz for 2 weeks before he started eating hard food.

Thats funnny that my vet didn't say anything about formula! he gave me some cans of soft food, can I get formula at a petco or something?

thanks for the advice, he didn't really eat any of the formula I bought, and he hadn't eaten the food I left out for him, but when I tried giving him fresh food from the can I got at the vet yesterday he ate it up in 2 seconds, maybe he needs me there to feed him? or maybe he didn't know food was in the bowl...

I finally showed him to Leeloo, she just stared, then I closed him back in the bathroom and let her wander around the bed room that he has been wandering all over. She hissed once when he started meowing... but I think its more of a frightened hiss, because her ears weren't back and her tail didn't fluff or anything.

I am sitting here with him on my lap sleeping and my bedroom door open, Leeloo is sitting in the doorway staring at us. I'm kind of like, talking to her in a gentle voice so maybe she can sense it is not a violent situation. she doesnt look angry or scared, she's just looking at us keeping her distance which I think is a good step...

now I need a name for him... and I need to teach him to use the litter box
