...that you'd find weird today??

I'll give an example. When I was little, one of my favourite breakfasts was cold spaghetti. When we had spaghetti for dinner, my mom would mix left over noodles and sauce and put it in the fridge for me. I would get up in the morning, get a fork and the bowl and plop down to watch cartoons with my delicious breakfast
.......Strangely, it's just not as appealing now than it was when I was 5.

Or, who also used to think that Cheese-Whiz sandwiches were like the greatest thing in the world?
Yikes. I wouldn't eat one now....well, not unless you paid me

What did you eat as a kid that was weird or that you would NEVER choose to eat now?

A few offball things:

raw hamburger
liver
Fig Newtons

Mom should NEVER have let us sit there and eat all that raw meat, but I never got sick or died, so I guess back then the cows were not mad. Re: liver, I used to eat it like it was going out of style. Fig Newtons, if I even pass BY THEM in the grocery store, I shudder.

I have to say my sis and I also were Cheese Whiz addicts. I remember this one Cheese spread that was in a plastic tube type thing, with a hole in the center, and ya squeezed it and it made this starry-shaped splooge on your cracker?

Once again... I don't go near the stuff or by it or anything!!!

I used to eat the fat of of cooked meat, like steaks and such.

Raw onions by themselves.

I'm sure there was other stuff but I just can't recall it anymore.

It does my heart good that it's not just me. By the by... I still eat cold spaghetti for breakfast. Cold whatever, really, for breakfast is kind of nice. Unless it's supposed to be a warm breakfast-type food. Cold oatmeal? Nuh-uh.

I don't think anything I ate when I was a kid was necessarily weird, but a lot of people seem to think that French Toast with peanut butter and syrup is a bit odd. I used to eat bologna and ketchup sandwiches, too, and probably still would if I ate meat still...

I grew up with traditional German fare such as pork chops/ham and sauerkraut... now I don't eat pork and think sauerkraut is nasty!

Though I remember my grandmother made a fabulous apple strudel.

When i was little my mother used to get really fatty beef, and i would only eat the fried fat and not the meat.. now i think about it and so much fat in my mouth i would
thats about it....

Do you know what speck is? its the fat of a pig and germans use it in their spinach, its pretty much bacon i think.. but its just FAT... well i do like to suck on the fresh fat on the skin when bf has just cut up what he needs for the cooking..
My bf said that if anybody saw me they would throw up just watching me suck and chew on salty pig fat...

what a neat idea for a thread. kids will eat the wierdest things i think. I have on my list and i hardly ever share these with anyone so consider yourself lucky!!!

1) I had a milk allergy when i was little so my mom used to make me cheerios with orange juice instead of milk in the morning for breakfast

2) I loved to mix instant rice, tuna fish and ketchup. don't ask where i got the idea. one day i just mixed the three together and enjoyed the taste. I used to eat that EVERY day.

My grandmother used to make us white bread with peanut butter and Dark Karo syrup.
My sister after bar time in college used to mix together butter, brown sugar and a bit a vanilla extract. And then eat it. Must have been the alcohol!!

What weird thing would I never eat again? This may take a while...

I do know that I was a good toddler and ate my veggies until I got very sick. Then veggies and I were on the out. Only recently have I begun eating some. Peas, brussel sprouts and asparagus are still definite nopes.

And I'm still thinking about what I would never eat again.

Wow, this thread is turning into a menu for a VERY weird pot luck supper!

gemlady: veggies and I were on the outs when I was little, too....but the veggies I WOULD eat were weird ones....I'd die before eating peas but I'd gobble up brussel sprouts and even request them. I liked cabage and asparagus, but thought carrots were gross. Now, my veggie taste is more well rounded.

I thought of another one: My grandma used to make me liverwurst and mustard sandwiches on rye. And I LOVED them. Now, liverwurst makes me ill.

One I STILL really like, that people give me weird looks about, is dipping my roast beef in french salad dressing. YUMMY!

When my grandma was a little girl, her grandma lived with them. She (my great-great- grandma) would wait until milk went REALLY bad, then spread the solid part on crackers and eat it.
My grandma says she used to have to leave the house when it was going on!

I used to eat Ramen noodles, water drained, with the seasoning packet put directly on the noodles...for breakfast. God, my breath must have been horrible!!
We still eat Ramens, but as soup the way they are supposed to be, and not for breakfast.

I used to make this concoction with chocolate chips, brown sugar (I think) and a touch of vanilla all microwaved. Had to be careful because if you microwaved it too long it was like chocolate concrete!

That's the best part of making chocolate chip cookies! When you have the sugar, butter and vanilla...right before you add the eggs...

All kinds of weird stuff!
Crisco, straight from the can
Brown sugar by the spoonful
sometimes I would mix Crisco & brown sugar..
Powdered sugar by the spoonful
mayonaisse sandwiches
raw bacon
raw hamburger (I would still eat it now if it didn't scare me so much)
dry dog food
carrots & vinegar

I got a good chuckle out of remembering that, especially the dog food! My friend Zachary & I used to sneak it from my sister's dog food bag..we were sooo secretive about it, too.
