hi everyone
i've recently gotten a stray cat named Blue. I found him outside my door, and it looks like he had gotten lost not so long ago. he was declawed and pretty clean. i thought i had trained him to use the litterbox by locking him in the bathroom with it. He had used the litter box a couple of times. Last nite i decided to not lock him in the bathroom for the first time. He meowed a couple times through the nite and this morning he had left a nice present for me right outside the door!! he was standing right next to the poop. Any suggestions? also, there were little white streaks in the poop. is that abnormal?

Thanks so much!

It sounds suspiciously like he may have worms. Have you dewormed him? I have found that when my cats go outside the litterbox, there is a reason, they are trying to tell me something.

I missed the declawed bit. That may also be part of the reason for not using the box. What kind of litter are you using? Some declawed cats have preferences for softer litter, it is gentler on their feet. If there is a problem with the cat not using the litterbox at all, there is an excellent litter called Cat Attract which has a guarantee that your cat will use it. I used it to re-train one of my pre-declawed cats to a litterbox, and it worked well. In fact, it became the most popular (poop-ular? Sorry, couldn't resist
) box in the house!

well, i use an organic corn litter that was introduced to me at petsmart, and i also use cat attract. it works when i lock him in the bathroom. i just called the vet and they are going to give me some medicine for worms. i hope that is why. i dont remember seeing white streaks on the poop yesterday. do you guys think i should lock him in the bathroom tonite too?
