Looking after Teufel and Bunny In june???
This is only for people who actually live in germany.
I ask this because we are going down to sicily to fix the beach house and i have to sort out some business with the people who are renting our house

It is only for less than 2 weeks, because My bf might have to come back for the second week for work.

I am looking for trusting people who are able to take care for a Rabbit and a cat.
The rabbit needs a bit of extra attention as she is an inbred bunnie so her foods have to be cut up a bit differently.

I'm doing my search now so i can get to know the person, so i can trust them with my beloved babies

Even if you Lurkers out there are interested you can just PM me

p.s Mods not sure if i was supposed to post it here?

Sorry I don't live near you, or I'd be happy to help. But I'm sure you'll be able to find a very responsible person to take care of the precious babies for you! Good luck and Enjoy your trip to Sicily (lucky you!!!).

fwan, I wish I could, but we're going to be away for 9 days (Hungary) ourselves. Have you tried looking for a pet sitter? We pay a friend's daughter to come over and feed Jamie twice a day and clean his litter box (she feels funny about accepting money, but it is "work", which should be rewarded), and my mother-in-law comes over twice a day, about 8 a.m. and again at 8 p.m., to open and close windows and balcony doors and give scratches. Your vet might be able to recommend boarding facilities. We have some very good ones in our area, but don't use them because we're afraid Jamie will commit "felicide". Would it be possible for your parents, or Ben's, to take in Teufel and the bunny for that period?

ben and i are going with our parents and then flying back with ryan air, or else my mother would have taken teufel.

Bens mother has a dog and i simply cant trust her with it although she lives around the corner.
well we are taking teufel to the vet to get him spayed so maybe she can reccomend me something.
I too dont want to take them to the boarding kennels, i might ask my vet in frankfurt if she can look after bunny for the meanwhile and maybe my friend in frankfurt with teufel. I dont want to take teufel with me to sicily it would be too much stress and a high risk of loosing him.

If Ben's mother lives around the corner, can't she stop by twice a day (or even once) to feed your pets and give them some TLC? If you don't trust her, is it just because of the dog? Another thing you could do is ask at the local shelter if there's a "Nimmst Du mein Tier..." program in your area. It's pretty widespread in Germany - you exchange pet sitting services with other pet owners in your area. It's generally coordinated by the local animal shelters. There are also professional pet sitting services that will send somebody to your home every day to feed and check on the pets - they're usually listed in the Yellow Pages, or on line. The going rate in my area is about €15 a day, which is also how much it usually costs to board one cat.
Teufel and the bunny would probably prefer to stay in their usual environment. Have you talked to any of your neighbors about looking after them? Pet owners would obviously be the preferred choice.
I'm always a nervous wreck when we leave Jamie, which is why we have a cat sitter and my m-i-l as backup, but so far it has gone well. The first time we went away, there was one "incident": My m-i-l tried to take Jamie for a walk on his leash, which I'd told her not to do, and he slipped out of his harness and got away. She went into hysterics, and the neighbors had to catch him. Now she knows not to do such things, and is extra careful. Come to think of it, my father-in-law did almost the same thing with our Boxer. We told him not to let the dog off the leash, because Fritz only obeyed English commands, and he (f-i-l) "knew better". He took Fritz for a walk, let him off the leash, and only managed to get him to come back after going home and getting his car and offering the dog "bye-byes in the car"!
When are you going to be away? We'll be gone from June 5th to June 14th, but if you're really stuck, we could take the two and keep them in our spare bedroom, but we're about 3 1/2 to 4 hours' drive from you. Jamie is OK with rabbits, but not with other cats.

I dont know when im going yet!
Bf will have to come back up in the mean while because he has to work
we havent sorted out dates yet because my dad hasnt.
The bunny is in frankfurt right now but since ben will be only gone from friday untill sunday night Bunny can come up here and keep teufel company.

The reason why i cant trust Bens mum is because she backs up on the last minute, bunny needs extra care with her food. eg
Carrots have to be grated so she can eat it properly, and apples and cucumbers have to be cut up very finely.
She wont eat Hay very much so she gets extra veggies and treats.

Also bf has a problem of people coming into the appartment with out us being here.
I am making sure we will not have ANY money in the house or valuable jewelery.
I think we will be gone by the second week of june.

THanks tricia
i will look around and might put an add in the local newspaper. If our dates clash
