I got a question.....

I was wondering if any of you have ever experience this before?.....

One of my four cats has become a serragate mother to her two younger siblings. The mom is still around but she has been nursing them and is even producing milk now. It has blown my mind that she is doing this. She has basically taken over mothering them, they are 4 months now and still nursing but on they're older sister!!! I was wondering if any of you have experience this before. I have just gotten a kick out of this.

It doesn't surprise me in the least but I have never experienced it before. *grin* Gotta love those motherly girls!

No, She has never had a litter. That is why I'm in complete shock!!! I was wondering why the kitten, which are 4 months now, nursing so much on her and I check her and she's producing milk now but she's a year old and never had kittens.

That's weird... could she be pregnant? I don't know... never heard of that before!

When I was younger I had a cat that would nurse off our female dog and the dog (who had never had pups) started producing milk!

Funny how mammal bodies are designed...

This is too funny. No, She's not pregnant, she can't be. The only male in this house is one of the kittens that is nursing off of her and he's only 4 months. It's so wierd but really funny. You have to laugh at animals, you have to think that they have mother instinks that just kick in.

i've heard of it happening before but never seen it.

human men can produce milk if a child suckles of them for long enough! i'm serious! lol

The only information I could find about a non-pregnant cat lactating was in the instance of false pregnancy. Hrmmm ... interesting.

It's all very interesting, I'll take a picture the next time I see them nursing off of her. It's quit funny and all but at the same time I don't know why they do that. Thank you Amy-DDh for posting that link, it's amazing whatour bodies and animals bodies can do. Thanks you all

Wait a minute! The kitten is four months old an NURSING!? That makes it even weirder!!! LOL!

Adoptive [human] mothers can even trick their bodies into producing milk for their adopted babies. They sell equipment to feed the baby through tubes while it suckles at the unlacting mom. Eventually the body may start to produce milk on it's own. Some easier than others. I guess someone knew what they were doing

This is all very wierd. I finelly got a pic of them, so when my hubby gets home I'll post the pics on here. I'm still learning the ropes on the computer. It's defintelly a site to see. You will crack up.
