I am moving in a few months and I have to take my 2 cats with me. Then, after my mother is settled into her new home in August, she wants the cats. I want my cat who i've had for 7 years and really love, but my mom says we shouldn't separate them because the cats have been close for about 5 years. Can i separate them or will it put too much stress on my cat?

They are going to be stressed from the initial move, and then to uproot them again and put them in a new home with your mom and without you is also going to be stressful. I hope someone will be monitoring their behavior and health so they don't fall ill.

I know you love your cat, but this is a lot of moving around, and then if you separate the two cats this is just added stress. With all the cats/kittens in the world needing homes, would it be better for all if you just adopted another cat or a couple of kittens? Cats are so used to routines and calm, that when things change on them abruptly they really do go into a tailspin and can get sick quite quickly.
